Placeshifter USB drive connects wifi only

I downloaded placeshifter to my flashdrive and it connects great wirelessly in my house from my laptop but when I try to connect from a remote location on my laptop or another computer it gives me an error about security. I assumed security was set properly since I can connect wirelessly with the same laptop that will not connect from a neighbors or hotel.

When connected locally, it is staying within your local network; from a remote location it is going over the internet & through your router. The placeshifter appendix in the manual has info & a links to other parts of the manual covering firewall ports and enabling remote access to your SageTV server. This FAQ talks about firewalls.
