Aspect Ratio: All freeze but "Source"

If I change the aspect ratio to anything but "source" the video will freeze frame after five seconds of motion. The soundtrack keeps going with the play timeline. Hitting any control button will update the video image- for example hitting the Play button will update the video image to the proper spot in the timeline (in sync with the audio) and start play again. But in five seconds it has a frozen frame again. I trashed the Sage properties file and without any change to the problem. Any ideas? thanks

I have a similar situation. I compressed several DVD rips using the Video tools (Handbrake, etc). The AVI's played fine for awhile, then suddenly stopped, or so I thought. I had audio and no video, until I changed the aspect ratio to something else! Then I saw video fine. It seems to be sort of random.
