Yet another HVR-1600 QAM Thread

I've been reading a bunch of different threads on here about QAM channels and setting them up, and I am still confused about a couple of things.

So I have Sage scanning and finding channels, and I can remap them to logical numbers etc, so they show up in my guide.
However, I can't seem to get any HD channels to appear.
I know they are there, as I can find them in WinTV.
I've seen threads on how to add channels manually to the lineup, but they don't work.
An example is this:

According this listing (http://www.shootregistration.com/misc/Atl_QAM.htm), and others, FOX HD should be on 92.21.
I can see it in WinTV. But WinTV channel information doesn't correlate at all (as far as I can tell) to Sage. It tells me that the channel number is 2804 with a Service id of 107. Whatever that means.
I've tried adding a new channel number of 92-0-2, 92-0-21, 92-2-1, etc. And I get bugger all (No Signal in Sage).

Where am I going wrong?

Thanks for any help

The weird part is that I get regular SD channels just fine.
I can also pick up Comcast On Demand channels so I can watch other people's movies.
But just cannot tune the HD channels in Sage.

The HRV-1600 isn't a simple device to set up. Channels have to first be discovered using the SCAN function, this builds a channel map .frq file.

Take a look at this thread and see if it helps:

Yeah, I've followed the instructions in there.
The problem is not that I can't pick up any channels. I get around a hundred.
I just can't seem to get Sage to pick up the HD channels.
WinTV does...not Sage.

Thanks

As far as I know, 'scan for channels' is the only way to populate the frequency/channel transition file in SageTV with the HVR-1x00 cards -- you can't add channels manually.

I wonder if there is an issue with QAM-to-ATSC conversion drivers where there's an upper limit, or cap, to the number of channels SageTV can detect with Digital Tuners.

If you're using the latest HVR drivers and the latest non-beta version of SageTV then you may want to put in a Support Request with SageTV.

I was finally able to get my A180s to pick up QAM but it was necessary to use the latest 6.4 Beta and manually modify the .properties file to use QAM as described in the referenced thread. I was also able to add channels manually by modifying the .frq file generated from a scan with channel information I got from a tv that can tune QAM channels.

I'll have a poke around and see if I can find the frequencies. Is there any way of getting that info from WinTV?
Or even from a different app?
Not sure my TV supports QAM.

SiliconDust has a chart to convert Channel Assignment to Frequency
http://www.silicondust.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2335

You might be able to use the SiliconDust Lineup Server and use that information to put additional channel information into your .frq, then ADD the corresponding tokens into your SageTV Tuner Setup remap.

My tv shows the channels as CHANNEL-PROGRAM so I was able to add new ones to my .frq file with this information. I was able to calculate the appropriate frequency by the channel number and the channel number frequencies for channels that were already succesfully scanned. Here are a few entries from my .frq file (this is a second frequency file that is generated from a successful scan):

CH:1 major:0 minor:1 prog:1 phy:108 frq:697250000 mod:11 inv:0 #:TV108.1
CH:2 major:9 minor:1 prog:1 phy:117 frq:751250000 mod:11 inv:0 #:WUSA-HD
CH:3 major:5 minor:1 prog:2 phy:117 frq:751250000 mod:11 inv:0 #:WTTG-DT
CH:4 major:9 minor:2 prog:13 phy:117 frq:751250000 mod:11 inv:0 #:9-Radar
CH:5 major:50 minor:1 prog:3 phy:119 frq:763250000 mod:11 inv:0 #:WDCW-WB
