Unhappy Pvr 250 remote receiver question

This is probably posted before but I have spent hours searching the forum and could not get a straight answer....

Short version of things:
I lost my Hauppauge Pvr 250 remote so I need a replacement. Is it possible to pick up any remote and use it WITH the IR receiver that came with Hauppauge Prv 250?

Here is what I have in mind:
I have several remotes that are capable of controlling multiple devices. If the original Hauppague IR receiver can receive IR signals of them, is it possible for me to map Sage commands to the remote IR code?

I just don't feel like purchasing IRMan/USBIR and want to find a cheap way out!

I don't believe anyone who has worked out how to access the Hauppauge IR hardware directly, which is what would be required to do what you are asking. So the answer is no, to the best of my knowledge. You need to use a PVR250/350 remote with the hauppause IR reciever.

Check out Ebay. PVR remotes show up there every now and then, mostly from people who built multituner setups and only need one remote. This would be relatively cheap. Try and get a newer "grey" remote instead of the older "black" remote. Both will work with your reciever as long as you use the lastest IR software from the Hauppauge site. It doesn't matter which originally came with your PVR card.

EDIT:If you have a learning remote and could "borrow" a PVR remote. You could teach the learning remote the IR codes for the hauppauge remote. Along these same lines there are options like the "JP1" cable to reprogram remotes. But this drifts back into price(maybe a new remote) and requires the will to do some modding. If you want to know more about JP1 and what you need just go here.

Thanks! I guess I'll just buy a learning remote, borrow a PVR 250 remote and remap all the keys onto the learning remote...

Sure, how many you want? The shipping for the pvr-250 runs ~ $150 and ~200 for the 350

Thanks guys!

However, I am totally lost on the JP1 thing. So I will need to buy a cable + remote and use my PC to teach remote new IR codes? I think the cost of that is similiar to buying a USB-UIRT and grab a random remote for my SageTV box...

But thanks! Good reading during work break on the JP1 thing.

Special thanks to Mikbro for offering his extra silver remote!
