Netflix DRM issue

I am trying to watch a Watch It Now movie from Netflix using both plain old IE and through the Netflix plugin and am getting:

Microsoft DRM software error
Your Microsoft Digital Rights Management software is not working properly and needs to be reset.

To resolve this issue, please call Netflix technical support at 1-866-402-2616, or contact technical support here and report the following error code:

If you are comfortable running a utility to fix this problem yourself, you may also follow the instructions in our FAQ on the Reset DRM Utility.
WMPError(C00D11B1)

Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file. For additional assistance, click Web Help.

I contacted Netflix support and it appears that since I am running Vista and have a DVI to HDMI cable to my TV, the DRM software can't determine what type of playback device I have. This site talks about the details of COPP and why I doesn't work, but doesn't offer any suggestions to make it work. Im wondering if anyone else has run into the same situation and found any possible work around's. One thing I have thought of is hooking up a second monitor to trick COPP, but seems like a waste of a monitor.

This just plain sucks...a legitimate customer can't use the services I have paid for.

Both your video card and your TV must support HDCP. It doesn't matter that you're using a DVI -> HDMI cable.

Have you tried running the reset utility? It's worked whenever I've had to use it.

I have this problem with my HTPC, which is connected to a SDTV (and only a SDTV) using s-video.

Do you have a VGA port on your TV? In theory you should be able to play stuff if you use VGA, since your TV will just look like a monitor. I'm actually a little surprised you're having problems now, since I wouldn't think it would be able to tell you're running it to a TV, nor would I think they would block playback over non-HDCP DVI connections.

I was able to play back Netflix watch-on videos fine on a DVI monitor using a video card that lacked HDCP support.

I can't find any specs on my TV that confirm that it supports HDCP; however I had this working in Windows XP.

I have tried the reset utility, but it doesn't help much.

No VGA port on my TV. I hooked up my computer monitor to my HTPC and was able to get it to work, but when I hook it up to my TV, I get the DRM crap. One thing that I did notice which is kind of weird is that my Nvidia control panel recognizes that I have a Samsung TV, however when I look at the properties of my display settings (right click on the desktop), it reports just a Generic PNP monitor which is probably why it isn't working.

Interesting device. I think I might try it just to see. It's only a couple of bucks and if it works, great! I have to do a little different setup because I only have dual DVI outputs and don't have a VGA out, but should be minor.

LG TV and DRM problem...

I had a 6800 Nvidia card that I had used both the s-video and component connections that BOTH had this problem.

I called Netflix and they told me it was an Nvidia problem.

I upgrades to a 8600 and now use HDMI on both ends. Same TV, no problems now.

Not sure what the initial issue was, but its working now.

I had the same error when trying to use my component output. Worked fine when hooked up to a vga monitor. Amazingly the netflix plugin for sagemc seems to have resolved this issue. I still get the error if I use IE but when using the custom netflix player from the plugin it works great.

I had this issue with netflix watch it now for quite some time, since my sagetv server is basically a set top box I dont have a keyboard and mouse hooked up and I don't see the desktop very often so I forget sometimes to do routine upgrades, for me to solve the problem I had to completely uninstall all netflix related plugins and controls for ie then I had to install all the latest updates including sp3 the run ie and update it to its final version then make sure wmp11 is working properly and is up to date after all this is completed you need to return to the netflix site try to watch something then it will prompt you to install neccessary updates to run netflix do all that then run the drm fix utility mentioned above if there are still problems try to restart so everything registers if it doesn't work after that then check to see that wmp is configured to download media usage rights if that doesn't work then I have no answer for you, as for the hdcp stuff I don't know about all that I am using a radeon card that was released before hd tvs were being mass produced and I'm using a 3rd party dvi to composite adapter and I can watch netflix streaming content on my projector just fine

I installed the latest Netflix plugin and use the Netflix player that comes with it, not the IE stuff. It works great with no DRM junk. I did have DRM issues using IE but not anymore!
