Question HD-PVR Live Stream?

Hi y'all a couple a of questions I think i know the answer to but couldn't find definitively:

1) If I were to get a HD-PVR and hook up my Cable box directly to it, would I be able to watch it 'live' over the extender and control it via an IR Blaster?

2) If I were to get 2 HD-PVR boxes and hook up both, could someone else watch the other box 'live'? Is there a blaster issue with more than 1 box?

Yes to both.

You might want to check out the USB UIRT for controlling multiple devices.

1) Yes, you can watch live TV, but just so you know: live TV in SageTV means watching a recording as it records. Chapter 2 of the SageTV PDF manhal in your install directory has a Quick Start Guide section; you may want to check it out for an overview of live TV.

2) Yes, someone else could watch live TV via another client if you have multiple tuners. But, only 1 Hauppauge IR blaster can be used on a PC -- I suggest you look into the USB-UIRT, a serial connection, or firewire for channel changing.

Post Using live tv with hd pvr

Hi, I have a question regarding the new H. hd-pvr in Sage. has anybody configured this device to work correctly in live tv? If so what is the typical time to change channels? Is Sagetv providing the h.264 codec or do I need to obtain that myself?

Works fine in live TV. I use a USB-UIRT to change it. Takes 3-5 seconds. I pick it in the Sage guide and I can see it change from the previous station to the chosen one. This begins immediately. It would be like you inputting the channel from the remote. I haven't tried to adjust the speed because this is fine for me. The HD PVR comes with software that includes the decoder for h.264.

Mine works fine in Live TV. I originally used the included blaster, but channel changes were very slow (on my machine at least). Probably about 10-15 seconds and it seemed to interrupt the AV stream coming from the HD PVR when it sent the blast command.

I changed to the MCE blaster using the EXE tuning plugin and IR Server Suite and now things are much speedier, probably about 5 seconds.

I've since ordered a USBUIRT though since it's directly supported in WHS/Sage and is less likely to cause me problems down the road (I'm using WHS, which doesn't support the MCE device natively and required several system file overwrites to get working)

Can't comment on the decoder as I'm using HD extenders.

I don't use a full client and my server vid card is only a 6200LE so it isn't powerful enough anyway, but from what I understand the HD PVR comes with the correct decoder to use. Sage does not provide. I haven't verified this as I didn't install the HD PVR software other than the drivers.

So my HD-PVR arrived and it works quite well with recordings but... live streams are giving me a problem.

The HD-PVR is actually not on the server, but on a network encoder which doubles as a client. I've used a PVR-150 and a PVR-USB2 this way forever. If I watch the live stream on the SageTV client on the server, there isn't any problem. But if I try to watch the live stream on one for my other clients (both PC's) i get lots of pauses and eventually the playback just stops. If I buffer-up say 5 minutes of a show, then it seems to work OK.

I also have an HDHomeRun and I can watch HD live streams all day and never have an issue, so it's not the network.

Is anyone else using an HD-PVR as a networked encoder and why would the HDHR be fine for live streaming, but the HD-PVR not? I'm guessing it all has to do with the H.264 decoding.
