Transcoding of DTS audio on HD Extenders!?

Am I the only one who noticed that the long awaited transcoding of DTS audio to 2-channel stereo "may" finally be ready?

In the 6.4.5 release notes there is this:

3. Added property 'miniclient/disabled_audio_codecs' which allows disabling of specific audio codecs for an extender/placeshifter which will then require the server to transcode that format (i.e. you want to disable DTS pass-through)

I added

miniclient/disabled_audio_codecs=DTS;DCA;dts

in my HD extender's {mac address}.properties file.

The result is that both video and audio are transcoded rather than just the audio part. The video part is of bad quality ~ VCD level.

My .properties file also had these lines in it
miniclient/conservative_transcode_mode=SVCD
miniclient/conservative_transcode_mode_6ch=SVCD6Ch
could they have something to do with this?

Does anyone have clues on the exact use of this property?

NARFLEX or Andy care to enlighten us?

Getting the exact same problem here, used to be able to view 720P and 1080P mkv's no problem but with no sound as DTS and connected via HDMI to my TV (and chose HDMI audio output).

Put in this property as you in the HD100's client .properties and the video also gets transcoded very badly but I do get audio

Support advised me in an earlier ticket when I requested DTS transcoding that you would need to put this property into sage.properties file in the main folder, but that doesn't seem right to me and I couldn't get that to work.

You may want to try putting it in the sage.properties on your server and take it out of the HD client's property file. There are settings for all the miniclients that go on the server. Make sure you quit Sage (not sleep) and/or stop the service before you edit it. With it being put in the client properties might be why it is affecting the video also.

If this property goes in the server's .properties then it affects all clients.

This may not be desirable since for some clients I do have a dts capable receiver.

Because of the firmware update it may only pertain to the HD Extender. You may as well try it and confirm if it does or doesn't work.

I have tried in the server as well but the property there has no effect. The video comes out OK but no sound through HDMI.

So it looks like it should go in the extender's .properties file.

I am filing a support request.

I got a reply from support.

This is the option to do DTS transcoding. The entry should go in {mac address}.properties file of the particular extender.

Apparently, the Video also has to be transcoded otherwise there are syncronisation issues.

Support suggested to change Extender Conversion quality to High.

I am not sure what resolution the Video will be transcoded to. If it is similar to my MVP experience then I am sure my server doesn't have enough horsepower to do it.......

Bad news then, I'm same boat as you and my server certainly does not have enough power to decode video for 720P or 1080P mkv's.

Guess I may need to look at converting all my HD mkvs from DTS to AC3

What is the correct setting for the best quality, I will try it on my gear, I do not know if my Sage server's dual core will cut it, but I could at some point try it on a quad.....

Just tried the popcornhour converter and that seems like an easy way of converting my mkvs from DTS to AC3, look here:-

Nice find, I'm running it on a troublesome DTS mkv I have here now, and it seems to be running along fairly quickly. We'll see if it gives a better resule than my last attempt by hand .
