Does the nanoPEG editor work?

nanoPEG used to work for me, but now it rarely does. When I start it, I usually get an error box that says:

NO suitable Hauppauge WinTV device detected. This software only runs on specific Hauppauge hardware boards. Goto [website] for upgrades and more MPEG products from nanocosmos.

Since it used to work and comes bundled with my hardware, I assumed I had the correct hardware (HVR-1600), but maybe I don't. Or maybe it is a POS. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

BTW, when it worked, it worked like a charm for me, unlike some of the comments I saw when I did a search.
