HELP Direct TV with Sage

I'm getting lost and hope someone can help me.

I have a Hauppauge 150
I've managed to get it set up with the DTV receiver just fine.

Now I need to figure out two things:
1. Get the correct guide set up with Sage.
2. Be able to use the PVR with Sage.

I think I need to install a USB TV Translator to use the PVR with Sage. Is this correct. How do I get it to work?

To get the correct guide in Sage. Do I need to do something with XMLTV?? This part is really confusing to me.

Can someone point me in the right direction with these issues?

Thanks,
Kyle

Direct TV

I've switched from cable to a direct tv receiver.

Changed the program guide.

Now when I use the mouse to click on a channel it won't change. I can only change channels with the direct tv remote.

Can't figure out what I am doing wrong. Which setting do I change to make it work?

Thanks,
Kyle

SageTV is able to pull in DirecTV's guide info on it's own. You shouldn't have to use a 3rd party application. Unless you're not in the US maybe?

One way of controlling the box is the Paterson cable. You'll select serial control when setting up the source. If you don't have the web site link already you can find it in my signature. I works very well.

Others have used a combination of serial and USB cables but I've never gone that route so I can't comment on how well it works.

This may be a dumb question, but when you had cable, did you have a cable box or did you just run the coax cable straight into your tuner card?

In order for Sage to be able to change channels in a DirecTV setup, you have to provide a means for the PC to control the DirecTV receiver. There are two ways this is generally done.

If your D* receiver has a "low-speed data" connection on the back and your PC has a serial (RS-232) port, you can connect a cable between the two, and configure Sage to tune channels via a "DirecTV serial" connection.

The alternative is to use an "IR blaster", a little device that hooks to the computer (usually to a USB port) and sends out infrared signals that mimic the receiver's remote control. One that's frequently used with Sage is called a "USB-UIRT", I think there are some others too. This method is also used with cable boxes, which is why the other poster asked about that... you may already have the blaster.

If you search these forums, you'll find a lot of information about both methods.

Making Progress

I've purchased the Paterson USB TV Translator.
So, if I understand correcly this will enable my computer to "talk" to my Direct TV receiver and change the channels.

With cable I did not have a cable box, just the coax connection.

I will be back with you folks if I cannot get the Translator set up.

Everyone is so helpful...THANKS.

Kyle

Do you have a 9 pin serial port on your computer?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_port

If not, you will need a USB to serial adapter as well.
