Converted Video Will Not Play
I'm trying to convert some mpg files to mp4 (for iPhone), and the files are not able to be played, I get the following error message:
Error -2041: an invalid sample description was found in the movie (title.mp4) It won't play in iTunes either... It won't even play in SageTV. Any ideas?

Is there some other software that must be installed in order to convert to an MP4 file format that works? I'm stumped...

What are you using as an MPEG4 decoder?

I am getting the same error, although it plays in VLC, I think.

What is the source? Version of iTunes, iPhone SW version, anything else?

I have 2 Hauppauge 250s and an HDHR. Both sources result in corrupt mp4. I can convert the same sources using Handbrake, and the resulting h.264 file plays back fine.
QT doesn't recognize the Sage-converted file, so I can't even get it into iTunes or on my phone. That said, I have the latest ofbboth iTunes and QT. |

I just tried converting to AppleTV and it does not play. On the extender I get no audio and a black screen. On a client I get audio but a black screen. I'm still running the 6.4.3 beta.
Safe to say something is broke.

I was able to convert a sample of SD and HD shows that play fine in Sage, but get errors from QT and don't load into iTunes at all (same error as in OP). This time I used the iPhone Standard profile.
I'm thinking DTb is going to be my solution (since I'm familiar with it), but I'm more than happy to do some testing once a fix is in the wild. |

I tried both widescreen/standard, HD and SD, and had no luck. I'm not sure what my Mpeg4 decoder is, as I don't have a source generating those. I am using CoreAVC for my 264 files from my camcorder which works reliably, at least on my HTPC. Glad it is not an isolated incident, I was starting to think it was. I'm using the 6.4.3 version of Sage, mainly, because I'm scared of the whole HDHR issue, although now would be an ideal time to do it, since the fall season hasn't started yet. I just remember what it was like the last time I jacked with my HDHR... Anyway, I'm going to hold off on the bug report, until some other people chime in here. I just find it hard to believe, as long as the conversion tool has been in Sage, that we are just now seeing this problem.

Did anyone submit a bug report?
I just updated to 6.4.8, and tried the iphone profiles and the appletv profile and get the same error. If I pick the iPod Profile I have no issues.?

I am now getting the "Invalid Sample Description" error in QT.
This use to work for me and older files converted to .mp4 work, but the new ones do not playback in QT, they play in Sage or VLC fine. I created the files from HD streams to .mp4 using the AppleTV Widescreen setting.

Updated to the latest version of SageTV, and now it instantly says that the conversion failed right after I click on Convert Entire Video. I am trying to use the iPhone Widescreen preset.
Anyone else confirm? I figured since there was so much talk about fixing this in the most recent betas, that it had been fixed...
