Mapping QAM Channels

From the Sage TV PDF: 'When remapping a digital channel, in many cases the physical channel remapping can simply be set to the channel index number for the desired channel. This number matches the “ch:index” field, or the first number on a line in the .frq file, and is valid for ATSC, QAM, DVB-C, DVB-S,
and DVB-T. "

What does this mean?

Anyways, this is my scan, along with the channels I want to map to. I've tried remaping logical and physical channels, but that just gives me two channels, one channel with a signal, and one channel with data... not good.

What does this mean?
The REMAP Physical Number (think: Tuner control) in SageTV can use the .frq file as a lookup table to set the correct Frequency or Frequency/SubProgram on a Tuner Card.

CH:18 major:0 minor:2 prog:21 phy:92 frq:631250000 mod:11 inv:0 #: DTV92.2

In this instance, you can set your Physical Remap to
18 (the CH:Index, the eighteenth channel in the list); or,
92-0-2 (the PHY-Major-Minor)
Either will cause SageTV to set the tuner to 631250000hz, Program 21, modulation=256QAM

This stuff isn't really important unless you want to add a channel that a SCAN doesn't detect. You would then hand-edit the .frq (or .scn pre-scan) file to add the tuning data to the lookup table and use REMAP to give SageTV way to look it up.

What type of Tuner are you using?

Have you used the SCAN function in SageTV?

If you have successfully added tunable channels into the SageTV Channel Setup then highlight the tunable channel and select "Map Different Station to this Physical Channel" >> then locate the correct Station Call Sign. This will merge the two elements.

Hi, thanks for responding... wasn't subscribed so I didn't see it.

It's a HVR 1600.

Yeah, I got the tunable channels, and i got the guide, but niether is gonna do me any good with out proper guide data.

I've tried what you say above, it doesn't work... well doesn't do it right anyways. It merges the channels, but the channel numbers are all wrong. For example, KCBS-DT scans as 2-1, but the TimeWarners guide designation is 402. I select 2-1 and "Map Different Station to this Physical Channel" then select 402 from the pop up... pull up the guide and it calls the station 2-1 _WRONG!!!!_ and all the guide channels above 125 disappear

The instructions are obviously not clear. I see two things, a channel I can tune, and a channel number with guide data... what is logical and what is physical and what matches to what?

Also, SageTV keeps crashing on new OS install.... what's up with that?

Logical Channel = EPG Lineup channel (think remote control)
Physical Channel = Tuning; examples: 7002 Satellite, 2 cable tv, 2.1 or 2-1 or 2-1008-1 for digital tuners

The SCAN Feature:
If SageTV can't match the newly detected channels with a STATION CALL SIGN then it will probably add then as additional channels. You can then use the REMAP functions to match/merge then then change the LOGICAL Channel to your liking.

So in your case you need to perform one more step and use the REMAP LOGICAL to apply the correct channel number you want to use.

By the way, SageTV won't use the Logical Channel, it uses the STATION CALL SIGN for all scheduling tasks.
