7.1 audio from BluRay

Hi Everyone,

I have been using sage for some time and have a large selection of TV/Movies on my file servers.

I am about to upgrade my audio system to a full 7.1 setup. My receiver can handle the True HD, LPCM, ect. I intend to move to Blu-Ray now. I am going to buy a reader and start ripping the BD’s. My question is this. If I rip a BD to my server in H.264 .TS format, will sage be able to output the 7.1 audio? I am sure it would just simply pass the audio stream to my receiver but is this possible?

Also, is there any way to have the HD Extenders pass the 7.1 audio to my receiver?

Thanks.

After you rip your "Non-DRM Protected" BD's, you'll get 7.1 if your watching from the server...I think any extenders will down-convert to 5.1 or less.

The HD Extender is not capable of passing any of the "HD audio" formats. For BD rips to work the audio must be transcoded to standard Dolby Digital or DTS.

I'm not sure what programs could do it, but you could probably transcode the audio to Dolby Digital EX, which is really just a 6th and 7th channel hidden in a normal 5.1 stream. The extender should be able to send that out, as it is really just normal AC3.
