BD-J - Sage Extender???
Just thinking out loud here... would it be possible for Sage to be loaded onto a BluRay disc as a BD-J application such that a standalone BD player could also serve as a Sage client (or placeshifter?).
Wouldn't be perfectly seamless, since you'd have to unload and reload whenever you want to watch a BD movie, but it would only be one box and it could be fully BD capapable... Anyone know how to do this with the placeshifter that exists today?

I'm kind of surprised that we haven't seen any Blu-Ray Drive makers embed SageTV's Linux version onto their devices as an additional feature. I think I remember seeing something like this in the CES news last year, but haven't seen any companies jumping onto the SageTV bandwagon for this other then our awesome HD100 (or should we call that the WAF100 like someone did on these forums yesterday
 )

Definitely call it the WAF-100.
 If there was a BD-player that also ran as a Sage HD Extender I'd buy it in a heartbeat. And I doubt my wife would even care how much it cost! And if it had a realta HQV chip in it I'd have to pinch myself to make sure I wasn't dreaming.

At least that shows it could be done. I think if you had a Blu-Ray player with SageTV built-in it would sell like hotcakes - well I guess the extender that doesn't have blu-ray built in sells like hotcakes too (sold out again as of last night), but you get the idea.

Count me in for a BD-J client
Hopefully using a Bluray proile 2.0 player's BD-J will receive consideration for a new Sage client. This could turn the millions of PS3s into possible Sage clients and offer another alternative to the currently supported extenders.
Speaking of the PS3 as well as the codecs that are part of the Bluray standard it also supports divx and should be capable of streaming virtually anything without needing to transcode. It could also be used as a development station thanks to a way of running BD-J applications from a usb pen drive meaning a Sage client could be tested without needing to be burned to disk. This sounds like a win - win senario as thousands of Sage owners could get an extender with an included Bluray drive in the one solution and aI expect it would sell SageTV to the many PS3 & Bluray profiile 2 owners who want PVR functions through various types of tuners.

SageTV demoed their software on a BD player from Pioneer at CES. So it is feasible. I think it comes down to money though. A BD box takes a lot of money to produce one and while they would be wildly popular here in SageTV land, I think it would be a leap of faith for anyone else.
