HD cablecards and SageTV

Would HD cablecards work if I had them? I know I can only buy them from one of the large mfgs such as HP or Dell. But...If I did have them running with VMC could I disable VMC and get them working in Sage? I know it is a weird question.

my understanding is no. that is why the HD PVR is so attractive.
