Sage TV In Israel
I'm currently a ReplayTV user; I just purchased a PVR250 to be part of a new installation of a Sage.TV 2.0 system (once it's available) in the US. So far, that's perfectly ordinary.
Now my parents tell me they have a friend in Israel who'd kill for a Tivo. Problem is: A) Tivos don't do PAL; B) I don't think the Tivo listing service works for Israel. He's actually got a satellite, so at least there's no RF tuning issue. So the question is, since I can't get a Tivo, could I build a Sage TV box that would do this? 'this' in this case means play nice with PAL and show localized listings (ideally in Hebrew)? Better yet, since this guy is apparently rather well off, could I buy a system that does this from someone pre-made? (Sorry for putting it in 'General Discussions' -- it seemed to straddle the international forums, the SageTV forum, and the Sage service forum) -roy |

The biggest issue I see is the guide data. The Sage EPG(Electronic Programming Guide) service is for US only customers. There is the XMLTV plugin for other countries but, I just looked at the XMLTV site and I don't see a grabber for Israel. Since he has a satellite maybe he can just remap guide data from another source so that it matches his lineup. If you can get past the issue of finding a source for his guide data, then it should be possible. As for prebuilt units I know that a user on this forum called mikbro builds complete setups. Here's a link to his site. I don't know if he can do Pal boxes or not though.
PS:Sorry if any other users have similiar sites, mikbro was all that came to mind right now.
