if your PC is crashing (BSOD, reboots, lockup, etc) you have a HW or driver problem that the stress of h264 decoding/scanning is highlighting.

Agreed. I am running it on an Intel Atom nettop and, although it is slow (~5.5 hrs for a 1 hr program) it does the job. The processor is a dual core that acts like 4 cores. So long as I don't run more than 3 comskips simultaneously, I don't have a problem. But if I do max out the processor, it will lock up on me.

I only ever have one instance of comskip running but even that pins the CPU at 100%. I tried using the non-donator version as well but it caused the same lockups.

I agree that it sounds like a HW issue now. Maybe the CPU is overheating.

Bump. Noticed that there hasn't been an update to the donator version since April. Are you taking a break erik or moving on to bigger/better things?

Are these the donated files or do I have to wait for a confirmation from comskip, before I'm able to get the right version?

The area requiring the username/password is the donators only area that contains the h.264 version.

Only the h.264 version contains the comcodec.dll file inside the zip file.

Must be taking a brake
Any issues you want to see solved?
Improvements you would like to see implemented?

@erik: My initial response when I read the "bump" message was, "What's not working?" It's been working really great for me ever since I tweaked the configuration. However, you asked what improvements he'd like to see, so I'll mention two I'd like:

1. It's been a while, so I'm not sure which parameter is it, but the one that determines how close to the show it should flag that the show has returned from commercial. That flag only accepts integers. I would love to cut that down to 0.5, however.

2. I'd like a similar setting for when shows go TO commercial because I frequently find that we've missed several seconds of the show prior to the commercial break.

Skirge01, you know you can adjust those delays as playback options in SageTV right? Both the import for the default STV and SageMC.

No, I didn't realize that. What setting(s) are you referring to?

In SageMC they used to be in SageMC Options / Enhancements / Comkip Options. Start and Stop Delay

Erik,

There is/will be a need for a streamlined experience in Linux if you have the desire to pursue that. I have not tested H264 scanning in a long time due to the requirement to have an XWindows because of the dll. I don't know if that has changed or not.

In light of the new USB key Linux server version forthcoming, this would be a good opportunity if you had ever thought of building a native Linux utility. I would donate again to support such an effort

B

PS - MPEG-2 scanning works fine using WINE and the non-H264 version of Comskip if folks are interested.

Hi Erik (or any other kind soul),

I am having some troubles with comskip.

I am running Sage, Comskip, and Comskip monitor on a dual-core Core2, only one comskip thread running at once. OS is WHS, and I have one hd-pvr tuner hooked up to an HD cable box (time warner cable samsung SMT-H3050) tuned by a USB-UIRT.

Most of my logs have several thousand lines of "Panic Volume Buffer" repeated over and over, and the shows have very little or no commercials registering. I have attached a sample log file.

What can I do to troubleshoot?

Thanks very much for your help.

Can't the donator version run under wine?
comcodec.dll is just libavcodec.dll but renamed to avoid conflict with ffmpeg instalations

Last I tried, it didn't like the fact that I did not have an X session running. It also needed .Net as well. I am not home, and I don't have access to my server to test. I won't for another week or so either, I think.

Does compkip work in a muti-cpu environment? Currently I have a dual cpu and only see on instance working.

Also, does comskip only work with letter designated drives, instead of //serverame/dir type naming?

I have a quad core and Comskip will only ever use one of the cores. However, this means you can run concurrent comskip threads on multiple files and not slow down the computer
