beginning & end

In Comskip donated, read where there is a setting to not run in the first minutes and the last minutes of a program. Now I can't find that post. What are these settings in the comskip.ini file?

You can run multiple instances of Comskip but the tool that starts Comskip has to be able to start multiple instances (not all can)
By running maximum less instances of comskip then cores available you will never overload the CPU.
When comskip is run on vista and not in live_tv mode it will automatically slow done when other tasks need the CPU or the disk, independend of the amount of instances you run

Any reason why these settings might be ignored? I have it set to:

always_keep_first_seconds=90
always_keep_last_seconds=150

And yet most every day my recordings of Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert constantly mark the last 3-5 mins as commercials even though (I think) I'm telling comskip to always leave the last two and a half minutes alone.

The real rule is that any commercial at the end shorter then the amount of seconds set gets deleted
Any commercial LONGER then the amount of seconds set will stay.

Any chance of adding a feature that says, "always consider the first/last x seconds of the recording as non-commercial"? That's what I understood those values for and that's really what I'm looking for.

i have been running comskip under wine for a few months now, certainly no issues with SD files... i am just now attempting h.264 detection, hopefully this will be as smooth.

Yeah, wine and regular comskip are fine. The donators one didn't run so well. I have a nice bash script for running multiple instances of comskip which you can grab here: http://tvwhere.wordpress.com/2008/06...mac-and-linux/

PS - I still haven't had time to mess with this.

i pointed comskip at the h.264 files today, a few errored out but most are processing ok... i gotta work on parallelism but other than that

BTW it definitely complains about various windows not opening etc, but it can be ignored (at least on my system)

Erik,
Sorry to bother you over here, but my posting on the comskip.org forum has gone unanswered for 24 hours...It's Tuesday afternoon, and I made a donation to you on Saturday and still have received nothing regarding donators' access to the version that supports h.264. Any idea how long it's going to take?

According to this post Erik is offline until Aug. 10th. I suspect that's the reason for the delay.

Yup...that was pointed out to me on the comskip forum. My timing is horrible, I guess.
Sorry about that, Erik (when you get back!)

Erik, what's the story with the new donator version of comskip?

comskip80_025_donators.zip 337KB

Tried downloading it but the file says it is corrupted and is obviously not large enough.

It does? It looks like that's the readme.txt for 0.79.144.

Several weeks back, I downloaded the beta driver for the HDPVR and it fixed the issue I was having with AC3 (Dolby 5.1) audio.

Not long after that, I noticed that the commercials were no longer being properly marked -- sometimes only one commercial would be marked, if at all. Prior to the HDPVR driver upgrade, commercial skipping worked perfectly so I am wondering if the Dolby 5.1 audio is having an odd interaction with Comskip.

I'm now using the latest donator version of Comskip 80_23. I've set Volume_Slip=150 and have tried Detect Method = 43 and 47 with the same results.

Right now, I am re-running the Comskip process on an older recording where the audio is PCM and a new one where the audio is 5.1 to see if the commercials are marked properly and should have the results in a few hours.

Anyone else seeing similar results?
Did you ever resolve this? I am also having trouble tweaking ts files with DD.

I am using the latest (comskip80_025_donators.zip)

I'm a few versions behind you but I don't have any special tweaks of the ini file. Let me do some checking with ts files with DD on my current version and then I'll upgrade to see if there is something that changed.

You could also try to set
max_volume=0
to enable automatic max_volume setting as the audio levels with DD are sometimes much different
