Comskip is on fire!!!
I just timed Comskip running on a TS file:
It processed a 1hr show (3,510,096KB "Great-H.264") Started 4:50am Finished 6;19am Total: 1hr 29mins Ran on a quad 2.1GHz AMD, running at 20-25% cpu usage, low priority (had comskip throttled back "--playnice") It hit every commercial break.... to the second! I think congratulations is in order, yes? -Chris Last edited by Chaos~Theory; 09-25-2008 at 05:40 AM. |

Hey Erik....
I've been looking through my TS files and I keep seeing something in the log that I'm curious about..... What does this mean: faac: frame decoding failed: Bitstream value not allowed by specificationI see that throughout the log file. Is that something that I need to correct in the INI file or is it something else? Thanks! -Chris |

Could you post the log file generated with
verbose=10

Well, I ran comskip as you suggested, but it "finished" last night about 3 am, so I was not able to catch it. It was still open and had only created the csv and log files. When I came back it was displaying a frame near the beginning of the video. Not sure if that is what it does when it is done. Anywho, I have included the log and csv (hope it is not too big) for investigation in a multipart zip. Thank you much for the help. Oddly, even though it was "done" it was displaying the error depicted in the screenshot.
Note: The multipart zip was created with 7zip and the files were originally named eureka.zip.001 and eureka.zip.002 and eureka.zip.003 You might need to rename them. Edit: One thing I forgot to mention is that I am using a custom recording quality that I setup in sage that I was using to troubleshoot some playback quality issues. It is the same as best, but is set to the max bitrate (around 13.5Mbit) of the HDPVR. I have now moved the quallity to "best" and am recording some craptastic movie from SCIFI to test with. I'll let you know how comskip performs on that. Last edited by sundansx; 09-25-2008 at 08:31 PM. |

The audio and video are out of sync so you need to set
volume_slip=40 and because logo quality is bad you may set logo_filter=4

Thanks - will do. How do you think an HDPVR recorded a program with such a problem? Is there a way to detect this sync problem from looking at your log? Maybe it is my box..I am recording video via component and audio via stereo analog. I tried to get stereo spdif working, but my fios box puts out 5 channel spdif regardless of what I set the audio to. Here's to hoping the spdif capable drivers are released soon.
That said I am trying it again on a new recording tonight that I recorded at Sage's HDPVR "best" setting, which I suspect most people are using. I am running comskip on that right now. I will rerun it on Eureka and this new recording with the other settings and let you know how it turned out. |

As a result of previous dain bramage, I guess I missed a trick:
My dirmon2 was setup to clean edl files upon the absence of .mpg files of the same name. That looks like what was dissappearing my edl files, comskip was making them. Erik - sorry if I wasted too much of your time on this screw up. I have implemented your suggestions and I will let you know how they work. I am comskipping some shows now. So far it looks like the first file took very close to 3 hours for a 1 hour show. That aligns with the ~ 10 fps that comskip is reporting. so I am a 1/3 realtime with a C2D 6420. Both cores are seeing loads, with a overall load of a very steady 50%. Thanks again for your hard work and sorry for the thrashing. Update: I watched a SD episode of Star Trek NG recorded from an HD channel via the HDPVR and the commerical detection was pretty good. I will keep running and tuning it. comskip crashing on occasion...... dunno why?!
Hey Erik....
I have been seeing comskip crashing on occasion. It will give an error stating "ntdll.dll" was that trouble maker. Win log: Faulting application comskip.exe, version 1.4.6.0, time stamp 0x48d7d4c3, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 6.0.6001.18000, time stamp 0x4791a783, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x00023592, process id 0x13bc, application start time 0x01c92087d2d0c578.The trouble is that I don't know what is causing it or what is happening when it does crash. When I get the error, I'll look at the task window to see what's up and it looks like Comskip is just going on it's merry way. I'd like to ask for a new feature.... I would like to have a centralized log file detailing the going's on of Comskip at the moment. Or possibly just a duplicate of the log that is being created at that moment from the file it's working on. It could get dropped into the Comskip directory, or in a sub 'log' directory. Who knows, it could be a feature for people that've donated or something. BTW, do you still need any HD-PVR files for tesing? Other than those occasionl errors.... it is flying like a bat outa hell! It is incredable how fast it goes through a Mpeg! A 30 minute show takes around 3.5 minutes to process!!!! |

No need for more HDPVR files for the moment.
COmskip does send its log output also to "stdout" Its possible to redirect this output to a centralized log file. I don't know how comskip is started in your application but you possibly could have comskip started from a small batch file in the same folder where comskip can be found. This batch file should do something like comskip %1 >>errors.log All output send to "stdout" (what you normally see when you crag and drop a file on comskip) will now be appended to the file errors.log. Its even better to use comskip %1 >>errors.log 2>>moreerrors.log because that will also append output send to "stderr" to the moreerrors.log file

Are there any pre-installation requirements?
I'm using comskip80_002 to chug through some HDPVR ts files. My server is underpowered for this task, Athlon 3200+, so it's taking forever to process the backload. Seems to work so far. But,...
I thought it would be good to distribute the processing to some of the other computers on the network, but on my two other machines, I'm getting a failure just trying to execute comskip without any parameters...? "The application failed to initialize propertly (0x0150002). Click on OK to terminate the application" I was wondering if perhaps this is failing because I haven't installed the drivers for the HD-PVR on these other systems...? All of these machines are Windows XP. |

So, i am thinking about donating but i have a question. How is the early release working on HD PVR files so far? i have over 60 shows to scan right now, and i dont want to start using it until its somewhat reliable. Let me know if its somewhat stable and then i can donate. thanks

sounds good. i am using it now, but damn its slow! lol. I let it run overnight on a quad core 2 processing at once, and only made it through 9 of 60. oh well, it will eventually catch up (i hope).

On a quad core you should run 4 in parallel to fully load the CPU.
