HD-PVR Buz Issue and NOISY FAN
Since I started watching on my studio recording computer I have noticed a slight buzz similar to grounding issue.
I turned up the speakers on the HD100 receiver and heard the same ground buzz. I switched to the S-video Hauppauge 1600 and plugged it to the same Cox SA4250 analog outputs. No buzz. When is the OPTICAL going to work for HD-PVR???????????????????? Somebody else experiencing the same? Press Pause and turn the speakers up to hear the deference. HD-PVR NOISE from the FAN. I saw the HD-PVR Noise Postings on this Forum already. Not helpful at all. My HD-PVR is louder then my Media center PC. It is clearly the fan whining. I do not fill like RMA since My HD-PVR has not locked up for 2 weeks... Looking in to Heat Syncs or other solutions. Will report soon on my findings. |

You can mount the quietest 120mm fan you can find on the top of the HD-PVR and disconnect the internal fan. (Is this helpful ???)
Audio buzz is from RCA connectors going into the HD-PVR from "what"? Is the "what" properly grounded to the whole house electrical grounding point? and if the "what" has any coax cables, Do these cables run through grounding blocks? which are also grounded to the whole house electrical grounding point. Google ground loop, you will discover a few simple ways to prevent audio humm. |

I have been using the optical since I got mine months ago: are you having issues? Make sure STB output is PCM only and select the component + SPDIF input in sagetv; I haven't had a problem. I've had Ground loop problems before as well, it was a pain to fix...optcal will fix if it's only the rca audio.

SA plugs in to the HD-PVR. NIC from the computer to HD-100. Hd-100 RCA to YAMAHA Receiver TV/Video IN. Same setup with the same cables in the Hauppauge 1600 has no buz. PS3 in the same receiver input no Buzz... Yes the house is grounded. Last edited by impro; 09-05-2008 at 09:09 PM. |

Last time I tried it was a few Betas ago. Apologies for not trying again. And big apologies to SAGE for slipping on few beta release notes. Thanks Last edited by impro; 09-05-2008 at 09:04 PM. |

Opened the HD-PVR..
The heat sink on the ambrela chip is plastic..... Exchanged it with zalman heatsink with very little arctic silver 5. Took the fan out. This is a very noisy fan. I left the case open and have had no lock ups at all for the last 12 hours. The ambrela chip is not that hot. The problem IMHO was that the heat was trapped inside the unit. SPDIF works well. I have always used optical in my Fireface 800 but worked for playback of live TV only. Delay was a pain and had to be setup very often. Recordings had the analog audio. Now with digital there is no more hassle. |

Its been 1 month without lockups.
I am very happy especially since Cox Las Vegas cut the clear QAM. I had almost every SD and HD channel including HBO. It did not make any sense. |
