Timeline ticking off 2 seconds for every 1 second passed; Purple screen too

I've got a situation that is causing me much grief and I'd like some guidance if possible. I've noticed that occasionally when playing back recordings that the elapsed time display shows the time jumping two seconds for every one second passed. The recording plays without issue but playback terminates at about the halfway point of the recording. This does not happen for all recordings and happens with the default STV as well as with SageMC. Any idea on what could cause this to happen? What can I do to troubleshoot?

Tonight I had another problem where I had a recording who's video appeared as a solid purplish color but who's audio played just fine. Any clue as to what might have cause this? I'm not sure if this is related to the above.

My machine is a 3ghz Intel on an Intel mobo, 1.5 gigs ram, ATI 9550 video card, PVR150MCE, PVR150 nonMCE, HVR1600 (using both tuners). I'm using the Nvidia Purevideo decoder. I'm running SageTV 6.4 as of this weekend. I am not sure when the problem started, but I'm somewhat confident that at least one of the recordings with the timing issue was recorded prior to upgrading. Before upgrading I was using the latest beta and had been keeping up with the beta releases.

Any help diagnosing the problem would be most helpful!

You could try this FAQ to see if it helps with new recordings:
During playback, the timeline advances several seconds for each second of actual playback. How can I fix this?

Thank you very much. I've applied the registry settings and hope this makes it go away. Can you tell me if these recordings actually contain all of the recorded program and Sage has problems playing it or are they truely short recordings?

Any idea on the purple screen problem? I know it's not much to go on but it's really all I can say to describe it.
