slow response to remote control commands

Lately I am having a problem with the system not responding well to remote control selections. It is intermittent, sometimes OK, sometimes very slow. Sometimes the rotating Sage logo will be on, other times I see a lot of disk access going on at the computer.

There is lots of space on the c: drive and on the data drives. I have defragged the c: drive. Could it be my disk is going bad? DiskCheck comes back OK.

Very frustrating.

Thanks for any suggestions.

What version of Java are you using? Maybe it needs to be updated.

Also, do a forum tag search for 'heap' for info about how to increase the max Java heap size that SageTV can use. Maybe it needs to use more memory. You can check the current heap usage on the System Information screen.

Thanks for your response Andy. My Java is 6.7.

I now think I have a bigger problem. While getting back into the system I noticed that the system has the same delay problems I experienced with Sage. Could my system be infected? I have a router firewall plus ZoneAlarm Security Suite. A few days back the upgrade to SP-3 did not work "access denied". It reverted back to the previous version, but in the end it said I may experience problems (Great!!!). I restored the system to an earlier backup and am refusing to accept SP3.

I am kind of stuck with what to do next.

I would yank Zone Alarm Pro completely off the PC until you get SP3 loaded and SageTV running the way it should. AFter it is all running proper you could put ZoneAlarm back on but it seems to cause some issues. I know there was a problem using the HDHR with it. I just use the Windows Firewall on my PCs.

Thanks for your reply Gerry. I am going to do as you suggest and perhaps I will also leave ZoneAlarm off. I have a router firewall and together with Windows Firewall I should be OK. I only use this computer for Sage.

Which version of Java?

Which version of Java should I be running with my SageTV version 5.4? I am currently on Java 6 update 7.

I am still experiencing the long delay when pressing buttons on my remote (this happens with two different remotes). It does not happen all the time, but when it does, I could throw the remote at my TV (even so it is not the TV's fault). It usually happens when I am trying to go forward in steps. I first press the pause button which usually brings up the time bar, but when it malfunctions, the time bar does not appear for many seconds. Usually, before it gets going again, I can see lots of disk activity going on.

Where do I look for this kind of problem? This is just happening recently, probably over the last couple of weeks or more.

Thanks for any help.

I agree that Zone Alarm could be the problem. My brother in law had Zone Alarm on his computer and it slowed it down to a crawl. Disabling Zone Alarm made an huge performance improvement. Try disabling Zone Alarm.
