High Memory Usage from HD extender??

So I'm running a HD Extender and one client PC, both always are on so that there is no wait time to watch anything. I noticed though that since I started leaving the HD Extender on, the sagetv service (running on a WHS) goes up to 1.2 GB of memory used! Video playback gets all choppy and I have to restart the service. Now, with the HD extender off, this never happens and sage stays right around 100 to 250 MB of memory usage. I've also caught the HD extender doing a slideshow when its on for a while, so does that have anything to do with this, loading each image over and over again and that memory never gets free?

you might check the version of Sage your running on the server. I had a similar problem until I updated the software to 5.3.10 (I think). Whatever "thread" was talking to the extender would basically just eat all the memory available to it, until I actually had to reboot the server.

I shouldn't post from work... 6.3.10's what I have running. Just thought I throw that out as a possibility- I haven't problems of that sort since moving to this version.

This sounds like something that might have been fixed with 6.4.8. But what version of Java are you running? The latest, which you should be running, is Java 6 Update 7.

I've also recently noticed that there may be a memory leak. I'm running SageTV 6.4.8, but not in service mode. I've been running 6.4.8 since it was released and everything seemed fine, but at times the UI would get annoyingly slow (long spinning busy indicator). After doing some research, I bumped up the Java heap size to 512 and things seemed good, but maybe that was largely due to a restart of the SageTV application. I'm fairly certain I'm running the latest Java, but will have to double check. Anyways, I had always been using the stock STV, but decided to give SageMC a try. Then things got annoyingly slow again. Last night I brought up the task manager (running Windows Vista) to look at the SageTV memory usage. What I noticed was that the memory usage would increase when I turned on my HD extender, but would not decrease when I turned it off. Turn it back on, memory usage increases again. Turn it back off, doesn't decrease.

This is happening to a point of frustration. Last ngiht the while using the extender and the SageTVService.exe up for about 24 hours I looked and it was running around 648megs which is pretty high. The HD HDHR recording (Terminator) was skipping, self-fast forwarding, and then freezing and locking up. I rebooted teh HD100 a few times to get the same results. I then STOPPED the service on the server and restarted it and all the glitches when away.

Are people still having this issue and did anyone find a solution?

I have turned off animations, turned on optimized image loading... what else can I try?

I am hoping Beta 6.5.1 will help, but I am cautious of that as well!

I to am running the newest v6 update 10 of Java and still have the issue.

EDIT: I was NOT running Update 10... I removed two old version of the JAVA updates, and then installed Java 6 Update 10. It is the only version I have now. Then I did the following:

- Updated the On Board Raletek Gigbit drivers with a driver from realtek that is much more recent
- Removed the extender properties files from the Client folder
- Reloaded the core STV for Sage in the SageCLient on the PC
- I also went into the old Properties file and made sure there are NO references to and local drives other than C:\
- Removed all import files nad readded them
- Turned the exnteder back on and let it assume the core STV client

Now, running with ONLY the Nielm Dynamic Menus STVi I am see NO lags or Crashes on the extender. I am running almost 24 hours without issues!!!

So updating the NIC drivers, updating JAVA, cleaning my properties file, resetting the imports, and resetting to the core STV has helpped tremenously!!!

Still running smooth after installing CC, Comskip, IMDB, and MetaData STVis!!!

And the HD100 interface is snappier as well as h.264 files playing almost immediately up selecting them to watch.

Just to clarify... did you clean up the Sage properties file for your server instance also?

Also, what is the following in reference to? Which properties file?

Yes, I rid the Sage properties file for the server instance of all local refrences other than c:\. So, "old Properties file" refers to both the sage and sageclient properties files. SOrry I was not clear.

BTW... things are stilling running fine!

I too have just started noticing sagetv lockups. When I go to my server I see that the sagetv service is consuming around 320MB of RAM. That's insane!

I will need to start updating my heam along with sagetv versions and I will also check my Java version. I will report back what I find.
