MX-810 Issues
I have been using the MX-810 Universal Remote for a while with the HD Media Extender. For some reason this remote does not control the Media Extender very smoothly. Sometimes (often but not always) when pushing the down button nothing happens...then when pushed again the cursor will jump down three or so position. This same behavior appears to apply to all the buttons but is most noticeable when navigating the guide and menus.
I have not made any configuration changes to the Media Extender to alter how it processed RC5 commands. Also I am using the OEM support provided by Universal Remote for the HD Media Extender. I do not see this behavior when using the remote that came with the Media Extender so this appears to be isolated to the MX-810. Has anyone else seen this sort of behavior or have any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this further? So far I'm thinking there is likely an issue with the way that Universal Remote has implemented the codes for the Media Extender. ** Edit ** Interesting observation...When using the Sage remote I can see that it only sends IR for the duration of a button push. The MX remote sends IR for up to 1 sec after a button is released. Clearly this is an issue. Thanks, HC Last edited by hchucky; 10-19-2008 at 09:00 PM. Reason: Update |

Sometimes remotes have 2 distinct codes per button. Button down and button released. Point the remote for learning in Sage and see if you get two distinct codes when you learn the button twice on a command. If you do you'll need to do that for all of the commands you use your remote for.

Thanks for the response. I gave that a try and it is only sending one code. Perhaps there is something wrong with the way Universal Devices implemented the codes for the HD extender.
Is anybody using an UD remote with with their code set and having good luck controlling the HD extender? HC |

I'm using a URC MX500 and had problems as well. With Andy's help I worked it out though. If you can wait until tomorrow, I'll post detailed instructions of what I did to get it to work. Basically I had to add a line to the properties file for the extender (have to do this for each extender) and it would then work with my remote. It rendered my regular HD100 remote a little unworthy though, but that didn't matter to me.

I use an MX-500 with my Extender and the only glitch I've observed is that a single push of the down button moves the cursors two places, so there may be a problem with the Universal Electronics command set.

I believe have a slightly different problem. If you are using the MX-500 then you taught that remote. You can not teach RC5 codes. So you likely updated the config to disable RC5 to get around the toggle bit issue.
I am running the RC5 code set provided by URC which should work exactly like the OEM remote provided with the extender. It does however make me wonder if I should go back to the learned non RC5 commands. Before URC released their HD Extender support I had taught the remote and had RC5 disabled. Honestly though I don't remember if it worked like crap then too. I'll have to go back and test that scenario. HC |

The URC-built codes I posted here are working w/o issue on my remote: URC MX-700 remote layout for the STX-HD100 extender. I don't know if the file they provided me is any different from what is built into their software now. Maybe you should contact their support & ask if there is any known problem using those types of codes on an MX-810. - Andy
