Bad HDPVR or some other issue?
I am at a loss in trouble shooting this issue. I live in Howard County Maryland and have Comcast. I have a HD PVR for the majority of my HD needs. Saturday I tried to record the Capitals in HD (Comcast Sports Net HD). I got the sound just fine but the video was completely black. Thinking this was yet another HD PVR issue I rebooted the server, power cycled the HDPVR and did all the other things I usually have to do to make it work. None of this helped.
If I went to another channel (HD) the HDPVR worked just fine, beautiful picture. Goint back to the Hockey Game it was still black. My HDPVR has messed up in just about every way possible but I am thinking this might not be a HDPVR problem. Usually if it messes up it is messed up for every channel, I have never seen it just not like one channel, but work on other channels. Is it possible Comcast is blocking the HD video feed for whatever reason? The SD feed of that game was not blacked out (though it grabbed a different tuner when I tested it). Anyone have any ideas on what could be doing this? As I recall it did something similar last year with the Caps too. |

Dumb question but did you revert back to your Comcast box to confirm it wasn't a source issue?
I've also had just about every other HD-PVR problem. But that one is new to me. |

I am unable to revert back to just using my concast box. All my STBs are in the basement with my server and there are no TVs anywhere near them. Perhaps I can setup some type of HDMI converter to DVI and put a flat screen PC monitor on it, I have a monitor connected to my server.

If the other channels worked, and it didn't have the "No Signal" box on the screen when viewing that channel, then I would also lean towards a broadcast problem. Check the channel again since it is a different day and see if it works. If it does, then I definitely lean towards a broadcast issue rather than a HD-PVR issue.

I did check later and it is working on that channel now. It seems to be just that one program on that one channel. And it seems to be a bit consistent, in that I frequently have problems watching this program on this HD channel, going all the way back to last season.

On one of my recordings last week the video dropped out most of the way through the show but the audio was still there. The video started up again at the very end. It's the only time it's ever happened so I'm inclined to think that it was a broadcast issue.
