My Pioneer HD TV finds 32 more clear QAM channels on it's search than my Hauppauge 1600. The way I have found most of my channels is by trial and error. i.e. (105-48-2 which would be QUBO channel 133 on our normal lineup) I know our cable company has added more clear QAM channels lately, and I have not found them with either the search or guessing. (but have found them on the Pioneer TV) Is there another way to find the channel numbers? I have contacted my local cable company, and they were less than helpful. Any help would be appreciated.

Other forum members have noticed that their digital TV can pull in more channels than their digital tuner/encoder. You may want to try some these things:
1. Shut down SageTV (or the SageTV service if running) and test your Hauppauge tuner using the WinTV 2000 application. See how many channels you can receive. 2. Some forum users have reported better channel detection when downloading the latest Hauppauge driver version. If the WinTV application didn't detect the channels your TV did then; 3a. Hardware - signal strength. Your cable signal strength into your card may be an issue. Test your cable signal level and boost (or decrease) the input signal. (This is easy if you have a cable modem). If the WinTV application is detecting the same channels as your TV then; 3b. Make sure you're using the latest version of SageTV (v6.4.8 or greater) 4. Exit SageTV (or the SageTV service, if running) and create a BLANK QAM_FRQ_CACHE.ENABLE file in the same directory where your .frq files are located (C:\Program Files\SageTV\SageTV in WinXP), or rename that file to QAM_FRQ_CACHE.ENABLE.TMP so there isn't one there -- and try scanning again. Some people need the blank, others find it needs to be missing. You can also try building or adding to your .frq file by hand, but Hauppauge has such a strange translation method that it drives most of us nuts. reference: SETUP WinTV HVR-1600 with QAM |
