HD-PVR 1212 IR Blaster Problem - WMC Overrides Sage

Hi Everyone,

I'm hoping someone can help with with a problem I am having regarding the Hauppauge HD-PVR 1212 IR blaster and Vista's WMC. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am still in my trial period of Sage and want to see how it operates with a remote before I decide to buy.

My problem is that when I use the IR blaster provided with the HD-PVR, Vista's WMC responds to the remote's commands rather than Sage. I have Sage and the hauppauge ir blaster prog installed and running, but WMC will automatically turn on when I turn the power button on for example. Important Note: the remote seems to work perfect with WMC (i.e., all buttons respond properly) problem being, I want to use SAGE - not WMC!!)

So I read up in this forum and found out that I could disable WMC (but not uninstall unfortunately) . So I disable WMC best I can (e.g., turn off underlying services and rights) but then when I hit the power button on the remote, I get a Vista error (e.g., you dont have rights to run WMC...). lesson seems to be that the remote is still trying to interact with WMC rather than Sage

Frankly I'm not 100% sure what to do, but suspect I need assistance with:

1) Properly Configuring the HD-PVR's IR Blaster with Sage using Windows Vista - How do you keep WMC from over-ruling Sage? Is there anyone with a similar setup as me (see below) that could walk me through the process (especially how you ensure you have the right .ir file and have it in the right location)?

2) Should I invest in an alternative way to control my sat box? (i.e., USB UIRT?) - I would really prefer not to however since the remote seems to work fine (with WMC anyway...).

Other relevant inf below. Thanks again all, like I said above, Sage seems great and I love the HD-PVR, but really want to be able to use the remote control to fully get the HTPC experience.

Relevant Background:
Hardware/software - See system below, plus, I have Sage (vr. 6.4.8.184) installed and running (including having the hauppauge ir remote identified with the capture card), I configured the Hauppauge IR blaster using the software provided (i.e., blastcfg.exe - using this program I am able to shut down, change channel etc to my Starchoice Motorola 505 box using computer and keyboard). Finally I have the hauppauge IR software (i.e., WinTV remote controller) running in the system tray.

There's a section on remote functions in my conversion guide here.
The registry keys are important here. Also, make sure that ehtray.exe is not running at all.

Then, grab babgvant's sagetvtray

thank you very much ghostlobster.

the conversion guide was very useful in turning off WMC (thanks to the reg key as you note). My remote now interacts with Sage - I am very excited!

I have been trying to get the sagetvtray program you refer to working, but not having much luck at this point (am not able to get the sagetvtray.exe program to load into my tray (have .net2+ and successfully installed and interacted with the WebServer plugin but wont load ...... I am able to load the older version (sagetray.exe) into the tray but alas can't get this one to recognize the green button (hence what its supposed to do!.....) I will continue to fiddle though.. progress has been made! thanks again for your help. cheers

Try SageTvLauncher instead. It will kill ehtray.exe any time it launches.
