Commercial skipping on client
Is there a trick to getting the automatic commercial skipping to work when using the SageTV Client?
The server is setup to record to d:\sage tv, and d: on the client machine is mapped to d: on the server (this part works cause I can play back the file just fine). I've verified that the edl file exists (and the server can see it). Thanks. |

I was having commercial skip issue with clients initially, and after poking around on here, I took some advice and went to UNC for all settings. On the server I have only \\servername\recordedtv as my recording directory, in DTb, I point everything to \\servername\recordedtv, etc. I'm running basic Comskip with the SageMC plugin right now instead of DTb, though. Again, all settings were pointing to the UNC names. And, after making that change, comskip only worked on recordings going forward on the client. Old recordings did not have auto skipping working.

Seems like an odd requirement.
The files are located in D:\Sage TV on both the client and the server. I haven't done any research around it, but it seems to me that using an UNC path to address a local path would introduce unecessary overhead. |

Reseached.
UNC: 11 MB/s Local: 70 MB/s |

It's normally permissions problems that cause this. Playback still works even if your permissions aren't correct because the server will stream the video to the client if the client does not have access to the video file. John |

Good to hear you've got it working.Wow, I've never spent the time looking at the overhead, but that would certainly have to be classed as significant.

That was a laptop connected via 802.11G; probably wouldn't be nearly as bad on a gigabit network and a 7200 RPM drive.

I'm not even running GB in my setup..just plain ol' 100MB. Using UNC, I don't have any issues at all serving up to 3 clients at once.
