sagetv client - processor or decoder recommendation

Hi all,

I've set up an HD-PVR to capture on my server (Core2 e6750 with 8800 ultra) and looking to use my old laptop, a Ferrari 4002 as a client to power an HDTV. The old laptop has a AMD Turion ML-30 and an ATI x700 graphics card.

I can use the Total Media Extreme to capture just fine on the laptop but when i try to watch via the sagetv client, i get a lot of stuttering. I've hooked it up directly via wired networking so i don't think it's the networking.

Is there a decoder that would work better on the laptop to decode the streamed H.264? Or am I missing something?

Thanks in advance for any ideas!

Try copying one of the files to the hard drive of your client. Play the file from the client drive with Total Medit Theater. How does it look/play?

Open SageTV Client, goto Media Center, select Browse Media files, select Browse the Local File System. Find and play your file from the client drive. How does it look/play thru Sage?

Your laptop might not be powerful enough to render the content well, but this should tell you if it is or is not.

I'm guessing you're all but SOL. A 1.6GHz single core, and a video card with no H.264 hardware decode. Not a good combination for HD H.264. I think your only hope is maybe CoreAVC will work for you, but even then, you'll probably have to record 720p and lower the bitrate.
