Proper way to store DVDs in Library?
I am new to Sage TV, but am really enjoying it. I have a couple of questions.
1) How to store the ripped DVD files on the Hard Drive? Currently, I have set a video import library, and store each of my ripped DVDs in its own directory. As an example, Core is stored as: Library Import\Core\video_ts\*.* However, by storing like this, I get, in SageTV, a list of imprted video as: Core/video_ts And, when I play them, the info part shows that it was last aired on 02/12/04 (ie the day of the rip). So, is there a way for the video_ts to NOT show up? And is there a way for info to show info on DVD instead of day of storage? 2) How are people ripping their CDs? When I rip them and store them in a directory, I can't get the titles to show up in Media Library. Thank you for your assistance, Michael |

What you're doing is absolutely correct, the video_ts and date are just limitations of the interface now, hopefully Jeff will be able to take care of them soon. Everything else should be possible with Studio once we get our hands on it. I'm hoping to be able to do a DVDLobby/myHTPC-esq DVD library with Studio.
I rip all my CDs, but I rip them to lossless APE which isn't supported so I don't have much experience with the music library, I'll defer to someone with more experience with that. |

If you are having problems with mp3 metadata not showing up, I would check the version of your id3 tags. You should be able to view/set it somewhere in the software you use to rip your CDs. While I don't think there has ever been any official comment on support versionsed of id3 tags in Sage, I have definitely noticed that songs in my library (primarily ripped with iTunes on a Mac) didn't show up correctly with the (default) ver. 2.2 id3 tags that iTunes used. I had to use its (very easy to use) "convert id3 tags" feature to change them all to have ver 2.3 tags. YMMV.

I ripped all of my CDs with RealOne Player and all of the metadata is 100% correct.

where do you tell sage where to look for mp3s?

Setup>Detailed Setup>General>Library Import Directories then select modify. Then select "Browse for new directory" from there it's a standard windows explorer type window. Just add the directories where your MP3/media files are stored. You can also select "specify new directory" but you can always mistype this way. The first method is usually better IMO.

Hi. I'm having a problem getting the ripped DVD's to even show up.
I'm using DVD Decripter to rip them as files, with the video_ts folder, etc. However, when I go into Sage, I can't get them to even show up. I've put them in the folder under My Documents/My DVDs/Spider-Man/VIDEO_TS, and put the folder /My DVDs as the video import folder. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Also, my AUDIO_TS folder is empty, is this normal? |

Change your import directory to \My Documents or put \My DVDs inside another directory.
And yes the AUDIO_TS dir is normally empty. |

Okay. I have the folowing as a directory.
...My Documents/My DVDs/Spider-Man/VIDEO_TS I have a bunch of .vob files in the VIDEO_TS directory. I've changed my "Library Import Directories" to "My Documents." Still no DVD shows up, even after a "Refresh Media Library." I changed Video Directories to "My Documents" and did another refresh, and still nothing? Strange. |

What's the difference between "Video" and "Library Import" Directories?

Video folders are where Sage stores its recordings. Library import folders are where music, picture, and other media (DVD's, Divx) are imported from.

Ahhh...now I'm getting the DVDs to show up, but when I hit watch, it locks up the computer. Any ideas for this one? It says that it is initializing the DVD.

Which DVD decoders do you have setup? Keep in mind they are seperate from the ones used for watching TV.

For the older NVDVD decoders, try using something else as your audio decoder -- both for DVDs and videos.

I tried setting the audio decoder to the SageTV MPEG Audio decoder with no luck. Then I switched everything to the SageTV MPEG Decoder (Video and Audio) and get the following error.
Well, it says there was a problem with capture of some sort, why it's trying to capture, I don't know. It also shows up on a TV channel instead of showing the ripped DVD. Maybe I just need to wait until I get my real HTPC hardware, as I'm only using a computer with WinXP Home, no hardware encoding capture card (AIW Radeon). I'll wait until the real hardware gets here, and go from there. Thanks for all the help so far. I just bought my $64 copy of SageTV! |

I'm not sure this is correct, but I'll say it anyway & let someone who knows more about decoders correct me: I think I recall a statement somewhere that the SageTV MPEG Audio decoder either won't play DVDs, ripped DVDs, or both... want to try again?

Hmm...That's strange. I tried playing a DVD with the same SageTV video/audio decoders, and had it say that I needed to install the latest version of directX. I'm doing so now, to see what happens.
I'm also considering putting the video renderer on default, instead of VMR9 or Overlay. |

Also make sure all your DXVA settings in Sage are set to Default. I don't think any of the SageTV decoders should be used for DVD though the audio might work but is probably not recommended.
