There were so many problems with the early revisions I'm pretty sure they'll let you RMA a C2 without any trouble. I RMA'ed both by C1 and C2. Tell them the signal keeps dropping out and you have to power cycle the unit as well for good measure.

My sound issue (under water) was resolved by reinstalling the client operating system. Some corrupt directshow component I would guess, I had one audio filter which did work before the reinstall. |

Client OS reinstalls have been my speciallty over the last month. I keep finding a way to tinker my machine to death. Luckily, most times I have figured out something new and interesting each time though. I am getting very dangerously close to what I would call the "perfect" setup. Not there yet, though.

I don't work for Hauppauge
Quote:
Sorry I missed your question. Hauppauge previously told me that C2, D2, and E1 all had the required hardware fixes to make DD 5.1 work. So I am not sure they will RMA it but you have to contact them.

Update on E1 and 1.0.5.3 Drivers
So audio and video looks great for about the first 5 minutes and then gets out of sync. But even worse the sync changes during the recording so you cannot set and play.
At first I thought this was a Sage Playback issue then I tried playing Back a recorded movie in Arcsoft Total Media player and it had thenexact same issue so I am convinced now that the HD-PVR cannot handle DD 5.1 yet. I have Dish VIP611 with 3 Audio settings 1. Dolby Digital 5.1/ PCM 2.0 (send source audio in native format) 2. Dolby Digital 5.1 Only (conver PCM 2.0 and send out in 5.1) 3. PCM Only (convert DD 5.1 to PCM 2.0) The audio and video sync issues are present on VIP611 settings 1 and 2. Setting for PCM Only makes the sync issue go away. I encourage all users with this same issue to report it to Hauppauge.

Be careful with this phrase. As soon as you find it something new will come out that will cause you to restructure your whole setup.

Upgraded from 1.0.5.1 to 1.0.5.3 tonight. I did have to go into source setup and de-select and re-select "component/SPIDF" to get sound, besides that it was all good.
Unfortunately I still have the 3-5 second jitter and no sound after a channel change, then everything is *usually* ok. When it doesn't fix itself (and also on recordings occasionally) I will have to either pause, ffw or rew a bit to get the picture back in sync with the sound. Maybe it'll be fixed in the next version. Release notes would be great...no luck finding any. -alex |

so what do people think of the 1.0.5.3 update then, skip it? Things are working mostly normally for me with the previous release, including 5.1 audio. I occasionally get pops when channel changing (using SPDIF) and the video lags behind the audio slightly in about 1 out of 10 recordings. Sounds like I'm better off not upgrading.

I did mine on the first of the month so its been two weeks today. I have not got that loud pop/squeal like I did with the old one. I would say it was a good update.
I did have my HDPVR lockup once since the first, but I still think that has something to do with the hardware not having any venting, but it does seem less often with this new version. It seemed like it would lock up within 4-5 days before, and I went 9 days before i had to pull the power and let it cool down. I am considering putting that walwart on a lamp timer and have it off for one hour sometime during the night every night, does seem sort of extreme so I am only considering it.

I am having the same problem with a 211 receiver, but all 3 settings create the issue. Setting to PCM only does not help.

I also have that problem. I'm using 211s and it doesn't matter what I set the audio to it gets randomly out of sync.

Hauppauge Knows about the AV sync Issue
I contacted Hauppauge and they have acknowledged an AV Sync Issue with with some Dish Boxes and Some Verizon VIOS boxes. They say that a hardware fix to some of Verizon boxes fixed the issue. They are still looking for a software solution on the Dish front.

Is Hauppauge claiming that Verizon is sending out a software fix to all its customers? or is this something the customers have to contact Verizon to get the fix? |

I assume you would have to contact verizon to fix the problem. One way to convince yourself and Verizon is to hook up the output of your verizon component video to your TV and the SPDIF out to the TV or your Stereo. If you see the AV sync issue then it is clearly a Verizon issue. If not it still could be a Verizon issue but I cannot think of a way to prove it.

I finally managed to get my system running somewhat smoothly and left it on over night. Everything was fine this morning when I woke up.. went to work, got home, no output displayed through sagetv, said there was an error with the HDPVR and I should make sure the proper drivers are installed (the computer screen saver was on when I came home however the machine is not allowed to go to sleep). cycle the HDPVR, cycle sagetv and everything works fine. Is this "the issue" of freeze up that people are experiencing that requires cycling?
