Problems setting up and using USB-UIRT with toggle codes (Dish VIP211)
I've read everything I can find on the forum, on the USB-UIRT site, and in the Sage manual and FAQs, but am still having great trouble setting up the USB-UIRT I just got.
System: Vista Home Premium, clean install of 6.5.3. Dish Network VIP211 satellite box. I got the USB-UIRT working fine as a receiver. I can control Sage with it fine. But I have multiple problems trying to use it to change channels on my satellite box. The first is that I can't configure it as the tuning device for the HD-PVR at all if I'm in service mode, which is what I want to use. I won't go into the details of that in this thread, because I've already posted it here, where it looks like people are having the same problem. This thread's problem is that my satellite box (Dish VIP 211) apparently uses toggle codes or something, because it only seems to receive every other command of a given number. I didn't think it was working at all at first, because when I would try to change to a new channel (like 140), the satellite box wouldn't see anything. But then by using the "test code" option for the tuning plugin I had created in Sage, I found out that every other button press would be received, with the alternate ones being ignored. So if I test "0", the first time it won't see it. If I hit "0" again, it sees it fine. If I hit "000", it will only see one "0", if I hit "0000" it will see two. This sounds exactly like the typical toggle code behavior, and is why when I learned the codes for using the USB-UIRT as a receiver, I learned each code twice. But I don't see any way to teach the USB-UIRT tuning plugin in Sage to use two different codes for when it's sending signals to the satellite box. Surely I'm not the only one who's encountered this. (I assume there are others controlling a Dish VIP211 with the USB-UIRT, as it's their "basic" HD box). How do I get the USB-UIRT to understand/use toggle codes so that the satellite box will receive all of the commands properly? Thanks for any and all suggestions! |

Well I have similar setup and was looking on here to see if anyone has done this before. I have a DISH 811 that is too old now, and doesnt see all the DISH channels anymore since they upgraded things a few months ago. Had been using the Dish 811 receiver since 2005 with SageTV.
And now I finally have time off from work to start messing with this. After reading a few things on this forum I am beginning to wonder if Sagetv server+USBUIRT is going to be able to change channels on the ViP 211. I sure hope it can. Did you get any answers yet to this problem? PS Does anyone have the sagetv file that has the IR codes in it, to control the 211 receiver? Could you post it? Or maybe the 211 is already on the list for sagetv. God its been so long since I did all this in 2005, having total brainfog about it. But I seem to remember there was a special file that I told sagetv to use, that had ir codes I got from someone else. Last edited by steingra; 12-14-2008 at 12:58 AM. |

I didn't end up finding a solution for the USB-UIRT. In fact, I found that there is a bug (that the USB-UIRT developer is supposedly working on) that doesn't allow the device to be used as both a receiver and an emitter at the same time while in service mode in vista. As a result, I'm having to use two devices to get the job done - I'm using the USB-UIRT to receive Sage commands, and using the MCE remote receiver/emitter to send channel changes to the VIP211. In order to use the MCE emitter, I have to use Stephane's remote replacement software. It seems to be working okay, but it's obviously not an idea situation, and it took a lot of trial and error to get set up properly so that the two devices didn't conflict with anyone.
