HDMI Capture Card

Is there a HDMI capture card that works with DirecTV or Dish Network?

I am thinking about getting my DirecTV SD service upgraded to DirecTV HD service or move to Dish Network HD service. I record over the air HD with the HDHomeRun.

I think there is a HDMI connector on the set top box to connect to a HDTV. Is there a HDMI capture card available for the computer that could be connected to the HD set top box HDMI connector? If not, what is the best way to record HD with DirecTV or Dish Network?

Dave

No such thing. Closest you can come would be the HD-PVR and that would be for Dish, not DirectTV. Supposedly there is a Direct TV cable card tuner coming but that would be for VMC, not Sage.

The HD-PVR works fine with Directv.

Could you clarify that a bit. Is that the HD-PVR set top box from DirecTV? How do you connect the HD DirecTV set top box to the computer?

This is the HD-PVR. You can connect it to any set-top box that has component output and record video up to 1080i. The video is captured as h.264. Audio is connected by analog stereo and captured as AAC or connected by optical s/pdif and captured as either AAC from PCM or AC3 from AC3.

I think you are confusing the HDPVR with the R5000 mod that only works with Dish (okay it works for the old Directv boxes, but not the new ones that receive h.264 streams)

Yep. That's what I did. Sorry for the misinformation.
