US/Canada ATSC Mix Of Channels - How To for XMLTV?
Hi All;
I have been searching these forums but there doesn't seem to be a clear way for me to set up a way to get XMLTV listings for the channels I get over my antenna/ATSC card in Sage. I have a deep fringe antenna which get's a mix of stations from Toronto, Hamilton and Buffalo. PSIP data shows for these channels but is not very reliable. I have tried all methods of adding the source (using XMLTV, and using No Guide Data) and found that getting the channel lineup I would like is best done by choosing "Use no guide data" and doing a channel scan and living with the PSIP data. 1. If I already have a channel list for my area I am happy with, is it possible to save this and use this to set up a lineup using the (or other) XMLTV service? How would I do that? 2. Is there another addon to SageTV to choose channels through XMLTV other than the way it comes with the software. All of the methods I see are to sort of "add on after you set up the XMLTV service with Sage". Thanks in advance. Portishead. |

You could try manually adding a channel in SageTV, using the Station ID from the Zap2it listings for that channel -- the Zap2it grid's link to that channel has a "stnNum" ID in the URL.
If the channels aren't OTA-only, then this could work -- meaning that they need to be carried on some cable or sat lineup in order for SageTV to have access to the EPG listings for that channel from Zap2it. - Andy

Hi Opus;
First, thanks for the quick response. Second, I am sure these are carried by some cable company (in Buffalo, Toronto and here in Hamilton). I will check it out. |

I have seen a report that using the Youngstown NY zip code of 14174 (others have used 14305) seems to give pretty much all of the Canadian digital OTA channels. So try rerunning the setup with this zip code.
FYI - I am in Toronto and I just used a Buffalo zip code and then manually added CBC which is the only Canadian channel I can receive right now as my antenna is more aimed towards Buffalo. There isn't really much on Canadian OTA TV that I want to watch that isn't also on US TV with the exception of CBC so I haven't worried too much about trying to get the Canadian stations as well. I just used the EPG data that also comes via Rogers digital which has all of the Canadian OTA channels as well. |
