Delayed Response
I had not noticed this before because I dont watch a lot of Live TV on my SageTV Server, mostly just playback until recently.
Response is very slow, it will take several seconds to bring up any menu or any response on the OSD, after the initial response, its quick for a while but then will go back into a 'slow response" state. The mahine is a P4 Celeron 2.4GHZ and is now overclocked to 3GHZ in an attempt to determine if cpu speed is a factor. The Radeon 8500 is also overclocked to about the speed of a 9200 Pro. It made no difference in the response time, (though it may have improved the picture) The Sage Client does not exhibit this characteristic at all, response is almost instantaneous to any menu selection. I am running Girder on both machines but the client uses IR man and the Server uses ATI Remote wonder. It makes no difference if I use the remote or enter commands with the keyboard/mouse. Its as if Sage has to "wake up" to take a command. The server also gets further behind the live video than does the client (if I pop back and forth between Sage and straight Sat signal , there is about a one second delay on the client but a 4-6 second delay on the Server. Need help figuring this one out ! Thanks in advance. mike/ |

That's kind of bizare, what's your CPU usage when it's "Waking up?"
Also do you have a lot of Favorites/Manuals/IRs or a lot of tuners? It could be that Sage has a lot of housekeeping going on in the Server/Server UI process(s), but the Client feeding process has a higher priority or something. |

I checked it out...cpu usage goes up to near 100 just as the menu is brought up then goes back to normal, but it does this always.
I only have one tuner, no manuals, about 20 favorites, the machine has an actysis to change the dish, and an ati remote wonder using the Girder X10 plugin. I keep thinking that the fact that it only does it after several minutes of not activating the OSD. It made me wonder if if was only doing this on live tv, or if I only noticed it because I was using the remote more durring live tv to switch channels etc.. well, turns out it does it on playback too. |
