HD200 as Germany-US placeshift clieent
This inquiry is a follow up to my (failed) placeshifting experiment from 7/2007. http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25451
I am hoping that the HD200 might be perfect for Germany-US placeshifting. We'd set up SageTV on a PC with DVB-T as the signal source in Germany. It would record in PAL Then the HD200 would be the client/placeshift. Two questions: 1) If I have NTSC in the US, does the HD200 convert PAL to NTSC? That is, the SageTV recordings were from a PAL source but we would have the HD200 connected to an NTSC TV. (We do have a multistandard VCR with converter that we could use if need be.) 2) If one connects a hard drive to rear USB port, can the HD200 pre-fetch videos from the SageTV server in Germany? (I don't think we have sufficient bandwidth to watch without pre-fetching the videos Thank in advance for all recommendations and replies! |

Sorry, that was on another post http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/show...hlight=germany but basically SageTV worked fine, but it didn't have the correct DVB-T frequencies and I couldn't locate them before departing Germany. This week I will work on getting SageTV going, and while I can always use a computer as the placeshiffter, I want to know if I can use the HD200 to pre-fetch the files from SageTV in Germany so that they are local to me in the US before we watch them. We're only doing SD here. Thanks again for all replies!

It might be possible to download files now (I might be confused on that) but AFAIK there's no way for Sage to pre-download recordings. It will however transcode them on the fly so they can be viewed in real time.

The client can browse the server file system and then download to your local machine (not sure about the placeshifter). You might want to check your in-laws internet service agreement as to how much uploading is allowable each month.
I've done this the other way around and it worked well (not with an extender but a computer using the PS software). |
