I am using the last version of Catalyst before 4.x (I think 3.10?) for my 9600 and 9000. Both are producing transparent OSD in VMR9 for me.

<edit>This used to say "Hardware acceleration is DXVA..... and they cannot be used with ffdshow."... that is until I was informed that Hardware acceleration in this case was referring to the label of a setting in Sage properties that has to do with how the UI is drawn.</edit>

This UI painting hardware acceleration has nothing to do with video rendering. DXVA in the context of decoders may improve a VMR9 tearing situation but should also not impact your ability to get VMR9 to run.

Also, just for clarification, overlay is not OSD.... overlay is an alternative (the older one) to VMR9. When using the overlay, you will get an opaque OSD. When using VMR9 it will be transparent.

Sorry to have contributed to the hijacking of this thread, Mike! If I can figure out how to use my GF's digital camera I may try to steer back toward its purpose tonight.

Just to clarify my comments, I am speaking only for users outputting via a video card not the 350. Also, Hardware Acceleration and DXVA are not related and can be used exclusively.

I read posts too fast sometimes. Yes, I understand now that when people are talking hardware accelleration, they are talking standard ouput, and not 350 ouput. In my defense though, BigGator was originally asking how I had transparent OSD.

Anyways, I also tried TV output from my built in ATI video on my 9100 chipset, and it too did the transparent OSD with DXVA enabled. I also switched between the two a couple of times and 350 output is much more vivid and crisp, without the tearing during horizontal movement, so I switched back real quick.

Two Questions about the Shows View

I'm sure this is obvious, but how do you get the show groups and details on the same screen

http://www.janernet.com/gallery/view...C&id=Feb29_016

Also, is this possible in the Media Library? I only get one list of all the shows I ‘moved’ from Sage Recordings to the Media Library. Haven't really poked around too much with this (not the highest item on the 'to do' list), but figured I would ask.

BTW, I'm really digging Sage 2...it's the only PVR software I use now.

Thanks.

The 3D Acceleration (UI in hardware) option in Sage determines whether or not the OSD and menus are drawn using your CPU or by your GPU using DX9. DXVA is decoder related.

Edit: Updated after I realized I was calling 3D Acceleration "Hardware" acceleration.

Ah, I didn't realize you were referring to Sage's use of the term hardware acceleration in setup.

I realized that it was gui related, but not that you were talking about it here. I've tried (and probably failed) to edit my earlier post to avoid misinfo.

There are 6 variations of SageRecordings currently available. Use your Options command to cycle through them. This can be done in the future for the Video Library as well as other things .

mlbdude, who's going to win the Superbowl next year? Seriously, though, thanks for keeping us informed.

The Hardware Acceleration option in Sage determines whether or not the OSD and menus are drawn using your CPU or by your GPU using DX9. DXVA is decoder related.

Once again, I need to slow down.

I meant .....transparent OSD with 3d Acceleration enabled.

Ok, for myself, and others, as a reminder in the future.

DXVA = Hardware Accelerated Decoding
3D Acelleration = Transparent Overlays, and other stuff

350 output options = Transparent OSD, (Full) Hardware Decoding only through the outputs of the card.

Well -
I just tried mine - and I had 3D Acceleration disabled... and I remembered why.

When I enable 3d - I get a transparent OSD, but no D.. as in Display.. as in - no picture, just sound... no matter which decoder I use.. when I use 3D acceleration, I can't get a picture.

Anybody else with an AIW 9000 Pro that can verify that 3d works?!

Maybe I have something set wrong in my ATI driver settings?

The blue OSD isn't bad - but the transparent would be REAL slick.
"-)

EDIT: just checked to make sure I have DX9 - and yes, I do..

I have a similar problem BigGator. When I enable 3D acceleration, my UI goes black, I can still see the entries but as I cycle through up/down I get really strange effects. Like slowing down and it almost looks like it copies the selection bar.

It is really strange. I am running a GeForceFX 5600XT

my program guide looks fine (actually better) with 3d accel. on - and my OSD actually works as transparent... but I get no video - only sound.

It's very annoying.

There is a newer ATI driver for my card.. mine is from Dec.. there's one from Feb.. but you have to completely uninstall the ATI driver to upgrade (and I have no monitor - only my TV).. so it may have to wait. Can't imagine that will fix it anyway, but..

I would update 4.1 drivers, my screen would flash black for a sec when changing setting and that has been fixed for 4.2
But I did adjust my filtering and anti aliasing and it crashes SAGETV if it is open
SageTV becomes digital static screen
Sometimes it would help if you enable 3D accel then put to sleep then wake up before watching video
try using it with overlay as your render then change back to VMR9 after enabling 3D accel

I've got a couple of things(other than some stuttering from time to time that gives me fits) that I just can't figure out. Things tend to be REAL sensitive when I'm copying something from the HD that I capture to, or almost anything that would be trying to use that HD. The captured video and the liveTV would end up skipping evey few seconds.
I now no longer can get overlay to work, when I went from 2.012 to 2.013. I get a black screen and no sound. I've tried all the different decoders available, as well as the mpeg settings to no avail. I can get VMR9 to work, though.
But with that, NO transparent OSD, which would be sweet to have. My capture card is the PVR 250, and video card is the GeForce FX5200. Using all the latest drivers for everything.
Sorry if this is off the original topic. I should take some pics of my cool Overture case/60" big screen combo soon!

I too can not get the transparent overlay to work on any of my FX-5200s or FX-5600s all running the latest drivers.
