Here's a few pics of my setup.

I don't think you would want to see mine, even if I had a place to post ths pics... what with kids' toys laying around, a toy box sitting in front of the PC to prevent my 1 year old button-pushing imp of a daughter from turning the thing off, and half a plastic Easter egg taped over the power button just in case she gets by the box, among other things surrounding it.

Oh -- my OSD isn't transparent either. Possibly changed settings in the properties file?

using a 250 for input, and an ATI AIW9000 Pro for output... I think latest drivers for both.

I think you need to be running VMR for transparent OSD.

VMR9 is the only way you'll get the semin-transparency. You'll notice it more at the bottom of the screen with the OSD of the time bar.

This is my setup too. But I'm not using VMR9. When I tried it I would get no video.

Haven't tried it with 2.12 or 2.13 beta yet. Must upgrade and try this tonight asap.

I think the transparent OSD for the 350 output started with the 2.00.12 release.

If you set to VMR9 but there is a problem connecting the pins (for instance, if your decoder doesn't support VMR9), then SageTV reverts to the overlay without any notification.

Lack of a transparent OSD is the easiest way I know of to truly determine whether you are seeing VMR9 or not. I believe that some folks who are reporting no tearing on VMR9 are probably seeing overlay without knowing it.

Any idea if Elecard supports VMR9... I thought it did, but I'm definitely seeing BLUE, not transparency.

I can also try Hauppage/Intervideo.. and a couple of others I have... but on my setup, the elecard looks great (very high WAF)

EDIT:
I just looked, and it seems I have Elecard 2.1 - there is now a 2.2 - any idea if this is a free upgrade for owners? I just bought it in December.

My 350's OSD is semi-transparent. Will post pics of my setup when I get home tonight.

I think you need 3D Acceleration along with VMR9 enabled in Sage as well for transparent OSD. Could be wrong but that combination does work for me with Intervideo, Elecard, or Sonic. This works on my 9600 but on my nVidia 4200 none of that works.

Edit: Updated after I realized I was calling 3D Acceleration "Hardware" acceleration.

My pictures are of the 350 hardware enabled output. The overlay is transparent with the PVR 350, and it is not using DXVA. This is because Jeff set it up this way, due to the decoder on board being able to do full transparency in 32bit color. DXVA does not affec the 350 output in any way, even if you could turn it on, which I don't think you can.

Well -
I just tried Intervideo/Hauppage, Cineplayer, Elecard, etc..

None of them will give me transparency.. could it be my ATI AIW9000 driver?

Or is this something that only works with a 350, or something with hardware decoding?

I guess the question is - is anyone without hardware decoder getting transparency - and what setup/drivers are they using.

Just to clarify my comments, I am speaking only for users outputting via a video card not the 350. Also, 3D Acceleration and DXVA are not related and can be used exclusively.

Edit: Updated after I realized I was calling 3D Acceleration "Hardware" acceleration.
