DVD playback issues ( I can't within SageTV)

Specs:
Latest sageTV Beta ( also tried the current stable release)
Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H mobo (780G)
BE 5000+ CPU, 4GB ram
onboard video/sound
VISTA 64bit
SPDIF sound to receiver
HDMI to TV 1360x768 resolution (little crappy 20inch vizio- HDCP compliant)

powerdvd 8

I only noticed this recently.
I can play DVD's from powerdvd8 app just fine.
In sage depending on the DVD, I get a black screen, garbled screen, or sage locks up, or I get a CSS/macrovision error.
In windows media player I get css/macrovision error.

latest CCC drivers 8.10 (just downloaded today)

anyways I used to be able to watch DVD's in sage I just don't do it often.

anyone have any ideas on what to try?
I found a thread about deregistering sage decoders. I tried that and it made no difference.

What decoder do you have selected for DVDs?

You can't have both selected at the same time, which one is configured in the DVD section (for video)?

I meant I tried both. I usually use powerdvd8 for everything.
If I use the MS codecs I get the css error. Power dvd8 tries to play but locks up, black screens, etc.

the WAF on this is high as my fiancee is spending more time with me and I have been singing the praises of sagetv to her

I'm thinking about doing a clean install of windows and switching to the 32bit version of vista or going back to XP
