Sage 6.4.8 WHS - Can`t run SageTV.exe on Console
I`m still trying to get a stable SageTV Installation on my WHS after months of trying on and off. Heres my latest issue. I`m sure SageTV does work for some, but i`m not one of the lucky ones
Installing Sage 6.4.8 - I can`t get SageTV.exe to run on the WHS console. Running sage on the console is the only way I`ve been able to scan for channels. Scanning for channels on the Client doesn`t work at all. If I install Sage 6.5.6 on the WHS then I CAN run SageTV.exe and scan for channels. But this version crapped out on me - sage client 6.5.6 now refuses to connect to the Sage WHS despite restarting the service and/or the server. So as 6.5.6 is not in production yet, I`m guessing the best way forward is to try and get 6.4.8 working. Anyone who has Sage WHS 6.4.8 - are you able to run up sagetv.exe on the console? If so, how? |

The SageTV does not run on WHS with a WHS installed. It comes with a Placeshifter license so you can install the Placeshifter on WHS. If you really want the SageTV client running on WHS you can install the version designed for the desktop or install the SageTV client. The SageTV client install will have to be trial version unless you purchased a seperate license for it.

I ran SageTV.exe on the WHS with v 6.4.8 for configuration. There's no reason why it shouldn't run. You installed the .msi with putting that in the Add-ins directory on the WHS server and installed it through the console, correct? Once that is running (I recommend a user administrator with a password for the service) then double-click the sagetv.exe and the configuration should begin. As long as java is installed it should work fine no matter what version. If 6.4.8 doesn't run and 6.5.6 craps out you have something else wrong.

I can run SageTV.exe on the WHS desktop and I have no problems. I just VNC in or use my KVM in the garage and start it from the start menu. I *only* use it for configuration and testing although, technically, I could use it to watch TV or play media on a monitor. I just installed the decoders and other requirements like java, directx, etc. It's always worked for me. *shrug*

Thanks Guys, didn`t know that Java was a requirement on the WHS. Cheers.
P.s. where is this stuff documented, so I don`t make more mistakes?? Last edited by scoob101; 01-14-2009 at 12:15 PM. |

No- You're not tunning placeshifter. You're running Sage and since it is already running as a service it will start up as a client on the WHS box. You could install and run placeshifter from another PC and configure Sage also. Java needs to be installed and I'm pretty sure the .msi doesn't do that. You have to install java yourself so you probably would havecontinued to have issues no matter what you did.

Thanks for everyones comments. The forums have been a lifesaver for me, I would have ditched Sage along time ago if it wasn`t for the help i`ve received here.
I think that alot of my pain has been caused by not having this kind of information easily to hand. Installing WHS is very difficult if you don`t have this information, and I didn`t. Where`s the Sage TV installation manual for the WHS version? Have I missed it or does it not exist? |

I don't think they updated the Sage documentation for WHS yet but it's basically the same as any other OS, other than you use the WHS add-in system for installing the .msi file. WHS has documentation on installing add-ins though. |
