MVP, MediaMVP, Extender, STVBSTP, HDPVR?
Hey guys,
I've spent the last several days trying to figure out which components I need to connect several rooms back to a central sage media center. I read up on the product, reviewed a wonderful set of diagrams in one of the threads here, and everything seemed to make perfect sense. Then, with credit card in hand, I went to the SAGE Store, and there is nothing labeled as EVP, HD100, HD200, Hauppage EVP. Just 2 products labeled as STVBSTP and HDPVR. I feel stupid asking this but are these extenders? To me they seemed like mini sage media centers themselves, or USB based tuner devices and not really extenders. If not, where do I buy extenders? (I also did notice a "extender" software package too @$29.95 is this a 'sage' firmware update for the Hauppage Media MVP?) also is the Hauppauge Media MVP = Sage MVP = Sage Extender? Sage should use some of the nice diagrams the community has built on the website, with links to each device going to the store for purchase. :-) Thanks for any help & clarification. D |

There is no Sage-branded MVP product. The MediaMVP (aka MVP) is a Hauppauge product available from various sources but not currently through the SageTV store. The MVP will work as a SageTV extender for displaying content on a standard-def TV. It does not do HD.
The Sage-branded HD Extender aka HD100 has been discontinued. It has been replaced by the SageTV HD Theater aka HD200. This product works as both an extender and a standalone media player. It does not record in standalone mode; for that you need a PC running SageTV Media Center software. The STVBSTP bundle you mentioned includes both the HD200 hardware and the SageTV Media Center software. If you're already a SageTV user, you don't need the bundle, just the hardware. If not, the bundle is a good deal. The HD-PVR is a Hauppauge product sold through the SageTV store (and elsewhere). It's a recording device, not a playback device, and is designed to capture HD video from the component outputs of your cable or satellite receiver. It's one of various options for capturing TV content on your PC. Which capture solution is right for you will depend on what TV service you have and what your specific needs are in terms of HD v. SD, premium channels v. broadcast channels, etc.

This points to the fact that Sage needs to revamp their product naming scheme and improve the documentation on their website.
