DVD playback is covered in Appendix I of the full SageTV PDF manual.
You can find more comments on playing ripped disks by searching the extender & standalone forums for titles containing DVD* or blu*. - Andy

Well in my opinion DVD playback is not covered very well.
I am a bit disappointed so far with my user experience with the HD200. I can't seem to get the device to recognize that my DVD folders (which are in fact set up according to the instructions in the user manual appendix) contain any DVD movies. I can force feed it by drilling down into the folder structure (movies title\VIDEO_TS\) and then selecting a .VOB file for playback, but this is of course painful. Are there any other more detailed instructions on how to get DVD folder structures recognized in the stand alone mode? Last edited by jpimentel; 02-09-2009 at 04:22 PM. Reason: typo |

Windows 2000 Server Issue...
After more frustration, I found that mounting the Windows Server 2003 directories yielded expected results.
The curious thing is that I can browse up and down through my 200 server directories and play the vobs. So why can't it detect the DVD folder structure? So anyway, I guess I will be submitting a bug report and see if I can get anywhere that way. Regards, John |

You need to rip the DVD in the standard DVD format. That is with a VIDEO_TS folder and all the .ifo. .BUP and .vob files that are produced. The .vob files cannot exceed 1 GB in size. That is the standard for DVDs and the most compatible format that works in every player.
