Smile New User - Basic Question

Hi all,
After viewing posts on this site it is easy for me to realize I am totally new to most of this so I'll need some guidance.
What I am hunting for is a way to view or record television programs without having to be abused by the commercials. I currently have Dish Network with (2) 322 receivers and (1) 625 DVR. The DVR allows commercial skip by jumping forward in 30 second increments. I am tired of watching safe family programming with my wife and kids only to be shown sex, murder and disrespect for family values during the commercials. Can SageTV be set up to intercept this and what will be required to set all of this up?

There are several ways to accomplish this. First and most obviously, you can fast forward just like you are doing now. You can also customize the FFW/RWD buttons to be any length of time you would like. I personally have the longer FFW/RWD set to 150 seconds. I have the shorter forward/rewind set to just 10 seconds.

Secondly, there are some commecial skip plugins available. These will scan recorded shows and automatically FFD through the commericals. There is a version for MPEG and also a newer beta version out for the H.264 recordings. Keep in mind that these processes need some computing power to work (especially the H-264 version) so your computer must be up to the task.

You can do a quick search on commerical skipping and find a ton of information. two nice feature of com skip with sage I like are
1) auto skip - just having sage automatically jump over commercials while you watch is very nice...
2) com skip while you watch - I have it set up to do the com skip analyzing while live TV is playing, so I just have to have the show paused for like 15min or so and then the auto skip kicks in, nothing better then 'almost live' with no commercials...
