720P 1024x768
I've been looking at alot of 720p sets and I keep seeing that their computers resolution's is 1024x768. I've seen pages that say their using "square" pixels so that comes out at 16:9.
But how would a computer know? How would you setup sage to look right on one of these screens? |

Actually they are using RECTANGULAR pixels to get it to look like it is 16:9. The only HTPC I have ever hooked upto a 1024x768 plasma was my parents and I just used component set with 720P as its output resulution. I am not sure what steps it would take if you wanted to hook via DVI/HDMI. Someone else will need to chime in.

If it helps, my Hitachi plasma uses this setup. If I send a 1024x768 signal (it's native resolution) then I get a 16:9 display on screen that fits perfectly. This is the same regardless if I use VGA or DVI.
I actually send a 720p signal (1280x720) which is slightly too tall and wide for the screen and the windows desktop is chopped off at the edges. However, when using Sage (which is all this machine does) you can set the overscan adjustment in order to make the interface fit the screen. You also have the option to adjust the apsect ratios to ensure that your content fits ok too. In reality this actually needs very little, if any adjustment. I think there is some variation on how the display handles the signals, I had to run through my display settings and force it to auto adjust to get the 720p signal to look right. |

I am having the same problem but I was wondering if there is anyway to fix this. I am pretty sure that I can re-scan the picture with my TV but I can't figure out how. I am connecting via HDMI with a DVI adapter on the computer so my TV wont let me re-scan as if i was connecting VGA. Any thoughts?

A lot depends on you video card and driver. You can get a cheap $40 ATI card that will do HDMI and set it to 1280x720. Both nVidia and ATI have an option in their utility to scale the image to fit you screen exactly. Just about evry one I have seen will overscan slightly by default. HDMI is nice in that you can do audio as well.
If you hook up via the VGA port you are subject to the limit of the TV but it will not generally over or underscan. |

My TV is 720p. I know it will accept a 1080i signal but still, i have had no luck with getting 1280x720 to look right on it. I did set it to this resolution and then use NVIDIA's resolution tool to resize my screen and it still looks super fuzzy. In the end, I can set the resolution to 1360x768 and it does look good. I realize this resolution is larger but is this the best signal I can get out of my card and tv?
