Question HVR-1250 Losing Audio Sync in a Bad Way!

Hello - I'm a new SageTV user and I'm loving it! I'm running a recent beta release that supports the HVR-1250 for viewing analog cable. (Didn't do my homework before buying this cheapo tuner card, software encoding is no fun...)

One problem - on every program I record, the audio is losing sync with the video. It starts perfectly for the first minute or so of the program, but it grows worse as time progresses. By the end of a 1-hour recording, it is approximately 30 seconds behind the video. I should note that I am running a brand new computer I built two weeks ago with an extremely fast quad-core processor and 8GB of ram, so it is likely not a performance issue outside of the Hauppage card.

It seems to be happening randomly, and mostly on 1-hour recordings, as I often have half-hour recordings that keep audio sync perfectly. Also, on about 10% of the 1-hour recordings, the audio degrades even further near the end and starts skipping, as though you were listening to a cd with a scratch on it.

I'd like to find a workaround to make this card work instead of buying a new one. What do you suggest? Thank you!!

I don't think there's much you can do with the audio drift on a software encoder. Sage software definitely prefers hardware encoders (the HVR-2250 seems to be working fine for me).

Ok, thanks. Guess I'll get a new tuner card that has hardware encoding.

Not sure whats going on, maybe its some other system related: cpu, memory, harddrive...

I have a HVR1600 & 1250 cohabitating nicely. I can record two clear QAM HD Channels simultaneously. And the analog side picks the non digital channels up fine!

It took a bit to setup the program guide: analog channels ver of digital channel side by side, but now, I can record on all 3 tuners at same time - 2 QAM & 1 analog. Audio synchs fine on my e2100 cpu & ATI 2600.

Now I will tell you the new IR32 remote software is really flakey on the 1250 - ver 2.57. Once I added the 1250, I had to use it's IR port, which caused an upgrade in the IR32 software ver. But I am hopeful to work that out soon.

EDIT - I am only using the 1250 for the clear QAM since it is a single tuner card. The 1600 is a dual tuner so I a m using it for analog & clear QAM. There is a way to turn the analog sid eon the 1250, as Sage recognizes it as an ATSC/QAM card.

Also, still having problems with the IR software after all these months. Just updated to ver 2.63 IR32, so hopeful this fixes the transceiver becoming non-responsive. (5/11/09)

JMB, post your specs and maybe we can help a bit more.

HVR 2250

Hi Heffe2001,

I have two separate computers running Sage, each with its own HVR 2250. Both computers have audio synchronization problems. I have tried many different configurations with decoders, renderers, etc. etc. etc. but nothing works. I also have an HVR 1600 that works perfectly.

How did you get your 2250 to work?

I'm having the same problem with a Pinnacle 801SE.
