HD200 is better than Sage server....
At playing problematic recordings....
Once in a blue moon, my Sage box records something OTA that it just is not happy about playing back. Tonight as my wife and kids attempted to watch Tuesday's American Idol, I had that sinking feeling. I knew something was amiss because the progress bar, was devoid of normal comm skip demarcations. A single 'wafer thin' line about 1/8th the way through. Sure enough when sage hit it (comm skip wafer thin line) on play back, the playback jumped to the end, and progress bar painted from green to white. No amount of quick skips or replays could get sage to play the entire show. So I punted. I sleep sage and fire up VLC. Which is a trick I have done in the past. But VLC is having issues as well. Eventually dropping audio. Again, no amount of quick skip, replay can get audio back. So I try the extender in the bedroom. Silky smooth the whole show through. Marital bliss saved. Anyone care to explain that little bit of gravy? Since getting the thing - I have resigned myself to an eventual second unit, and will move my box upstairs closer to the antenna, genuine server client, headless back end etc....ain't progress wonderful. |

I would not even try to venture a guess. I have 2 HD100s, one of them right next to my HTPC. I have probably 1% of the problems I used to have. I would not even think of watching the HTPC directly anymore, even though it is still hooked up. Not only did the WAF go up, but so did mine. I am to the point now that I do few upgrades and typically only when there is a new must have feature. SageTV is no longer just a hobby for me.

Maybe comskip got confused by American Idol's SIX MINUTE commercial break that occurred right around the middle of the show.
We don't use comskip but have the "skip 2" button set at two minutes. We jumped THREE TIMES to get through the break. American Idol is one show that we never, ever, watch "live". Just about every commercial break is 4+ minutes long (though I admit I don't recall ever seeing a 6-minute break until last night). On the results episodes, you can just about start halfway in, and you'll catch up to "real time" by the end. Just curious - for those of you with comskip, (when it works), how much actual airtime does the show take?

A 60min primetime show is typically 40-43 minutes. A 30 min show is 21-22min.
