As always, send an official request. Posting in the forums does nothing.

Make another suggestion. Since we're in a beta cycle they might consider it.

If there's an existing DirectShow filter that supports DVB subtitle decoding that we can utilize it would greatly increase the chances of us supporting that. So if any of you DVB users are aware of such a filter then it'd be a good idea to submit a new report with that information.

I must say I'm very dissappointed. I really thought that Sage would understand why DVB subtitles are important but sadly V7 still lacks it. I may understand shows with English language but wife and kids don't,. that's why it is more and more difficult to explain them why there are no subtitles if the show was recorded by SageTV.
Oh well, maybe I have to begin seek alternatives if there is one. But I just didn't want to do that, I just love SageTV so much. |

Are there any plans to support CC in general for ATSC broadcasts? I've never seen this working (on my PC using multiple tuners e.g. Avermedia 780, Vistaview DA-1N1-E). Coming from Windows Media Center, I've never seen the same problem over there.
I don't really rely on CC, but is this supposed to work, or not supported? |

Narflex,
I'd really appreciate if you directly and unequivocally addressed the question whether DVB subtitles will be supported in the near future (read - V7) or not. I think people deserve to know this, especially considering the fact this support has already been specifically promised during V6 beta cycle (look at the post by you in the very beginning of this very thread).

Then I really wonder what's wrong in my case and why I never got this working. When I enable CC1 nothing happens (double checked that the programming indeed has captions using another system and WMC)

What about QAM recordings through the HDHR? I know there is CC in the file since it can be extracted via ccextractor and then the .srt files can be displayed via the subtitles option. But selecting CC1 or CC2 doesn't show anything. What decoder do we need to use? I've tried the SageTV and the Microsoft DTV-DVD decoder, without luck.
edit: messed with this some more and my client can display QAM'ed CC, but it is all garbled (the .srt file has perfect captions so I know it isn't bad captions in the source). The server, which is my main client does not show CC at all for QAM recordings edit2: looks like the garbled captions may be only on some channels, so I need to look into the signal quality of those channels, to see if that means anything. But, I still get no CC at all on the main server, which is the important one.

CC is going to depend on the decoder you use and also the video renderer. If you're using either VMR or EVR along with the DXVA enabled SageTV MPEG Video decoder then they should work fine.

Thanks for clarifying this. I was using the native Windows decoder.

On the client, I use the SageTV decoder and I get analog and QAM captions (but have determined that captions from FOX are corrupt in Sage, even though that ccextractor can extract perfect captions.).

I'm sure that there are still a whole number of us users out there that are as still as confused as ever whether subtitles, closed captions or whatever would work for them.
Like everybody else has experienced over the years (yes, years it's taken to sort this), it seems we are told "it works now" to spend days effing around with it, to find some reason why it doesn't. In this house we are tending more and more to watch real time TV because of this shortcoming. We don't want flash graphics, new UI's DVBviewer plugins or any other fudgeware, just to get the subtitles working properly and natively in SageTV. Is there any way that clear an unequivocal set of instructions could be created that explains what version of the server, client and extender will work with what decoders and, if necessary in what locale, with what service (e.g DVB-S and/or DVB-T as in NZ)? |
