Has anyone upgraded to WHS PP2 yet?

Any issues with Sage?

I loaded it. No issues here.

The only potential issue is that PP2 creates a new shared directory named "Recorded TV". So if you have a directory named the same, you might want to move it or back it up before installing.

I will be picking up another 1.5TB drive then reinstalling WHS with PP2. I'll post if there are any issues but I don't expect any.

For those of you with it installed already I have a question.

Does PP2 include WMP 11?

You mean support for wmp11? I am confused by your question as I don't think home server in general has wmp on it does it?

WHS has WMP 10 (I think it could be 9 though) on it by default. But in order to use some media orientated programs you must have WMP 11. There is a very easy hack to install WMP 11 on WHS but I want to know if PP2 updates WMP to 11.

The reason I ask is many of the updates are media orientated so it would make sense for them to update WMP.

No. PP2 does NOT give you WMP11. You still need to do the install hack workaround. (WHS comes with WMP10) For the new Windows Media Center features you run the WHS Connector install and then run the Windows Media Center Connector install on the PC that has Windows Media Center installed.

Thanks for that info. Kinda sucks they didn't take the opportunity to update it but what else would you expect from MS eh?

The other thing I wish they would add is the capability to backup the system partition. It is totally silly that you can use WHS to back up everything on your LAN but then you have to come up with another strategy for backing up your c:\Program Files\Sage folder or anything else on your c: drive.

The MS response seems to be "Just reinstall the OS" which is not acceptable when you are using it as a Sage server as you have lots of drivers, etc. that also have to be reinstalled.

My server updated and I don't see any problems yet ...

Currently my SageTV recordings go to a share I created called "SageTV" and I am wondering if there is any benefit/drawback to moving them to the "Recorded TV" share!?

I would have to read up on how to successfully move the recordings but if there is no benefit I may just leave it alone for now.

I have a mothballed Extender (Linksys WMCE54AG) - I don't suppose this is of any use WITHOUT a running MCE2005 somewhere?

Wayne: I totally agree with you about the system backup - I have too much on the C: that I don't really want to reinstall - SageTV, FTP, all the drivers, plugins, configurations, etc.

I think you do still need to run MCE2005 but there is nothing wrong with that OS as it is just XP pro with MC added on and in some ways it has more functionality than Vista HP.

I am a convert from MCE2005 and I still have 5 of these extenders, most are not plugged in. I also still have XP MCE running on my HTPC. You can actually use these extenders with Sage recorded TV as MCE is fine with MPG files. Just setup your SageTV folder as a video folder on your MCE extender and you should be able to watch the shows no problem. This likely will only work with SD shows recorded in mpg files.
