hd200 component video always widescreen?
i have an hd200 hooked up to a regular 4x3 tv via component video. it seems to always force it to 16x9 so everything looks scrunched and the menus, etc are barely readable. is there a way to override this? if i use composite or svideo it looks fine.
edit: actually svideo is scrunched as well. i have display set to 480i and aspect ratio set to 4:3. Last edited by rlrl; 03-27-2009 at 09:06 PM. |

Are you running the latest beta firmware? It's got a bug that's causing that.

does that affect svideo as well? i have 2 boxes. on the other one, the svideo output is just fine. on this one, it's stretched. they both have the latest (non-beta) firmware.

P.S. I hate being at work on Saturday testing. Grrrrrrr....Especially since this place blocks my placeshifter client!

Maybe you've got something different, it's just the last two beta releases that have had the AR issue. At least as far as I've noticed.

Along these lines I want the s-video (SD) output to use the 4:3 aspect ratio (for the UI) while the HDMI uses 16:9. Is this possible? What is happening now is that I get black bars on the top and bottom with the SD output which I can get rid of by using a zoom mode on my tv but the OSD from my AVR is then cut off.

Thanks, but this would be just for video playback instead of the UI, right (I'm just interested in the menus, etc.)? I guess I'm going to have to manually change a setting anyways depending on which output I'm using at the time?

What the Letterbox setting allows you to do is use the extender to zoom into the video rather than the TV. That way the UI is still on the screen as it normally would be.

Why are you changing outputs?

I'm not really "changing" outputs - I just have 2 displays and I'm viewing one at-a-time (SD and HD outputs are always active at the same time for the HD200 as you probably know). So, I use s-video for a small LCD when I want to listen music and don't want to turn the bigscreen on (connected via HDMI). So, are you saying the "Letterbox" setting will give me the correct display of the UI menus for s-video output (4:3 without black bars on top and bottom) and will not mess up the 16:9 HDMI output/display? Thanks.

But from what I believe I understand now, as far as the display on the 4:3 screen looking normal if you're not going to be playing video on it... The only way that's going to happen is by manually changing the Aspect Ratio Setting from 16:9 to 4:3 each time you change displays. And you'd have change that setting each time you change displays. I don't think that would be easy to automate at all. Unless you did some custom work, which I haven't the foggiest idea how, you'd have to change the setting manually. A couple small digital pictures may better explain what you're talking about.
