Hauppauge HD-PVR beta driver v1.5.6

Hauppauge has released a new beta driver for the HD-PVR on their support page. Click on the 'Beta' tab, or download here:

hdpvr_1.5.6.0_beta.zip

(I don't have a list of changes.)

Changelog.

Isn't this the changelog from the beta tab?

Note: This beta release fixes A/V sync issues with some Dish Network and FIOS set top boxes. This release also fixes IR receive issues with third party applications. In addition, this release includes changes to fix flash memory corruption problems.

Note: This version includes a record format which can be immediately played back on a Sony Playstation3. This is the .M2TS format.

I have installed the beta and it resolves the A/V sync issue I had when using a high difinition optical audio connection between my Fios 6xxx STB and the HD PVR. I don't use and can't comment on any of the other changes.

I just installed the beta and it did not resolve my lack of audio on the S/PDIF input. I'm using a DCH-3200 STB (Time Warner).

When I installed the beta driver my HDPVR stopped working. SageTV and TMT would not recognize that I had a HDPVR. I had to reinstall the prior version of the driver.

Same problem here. Immediately reinstalling prior version solved everything for me.

Hauppauge has to be one of the worst companies when it comes to providing a proper driver for their products. Their testing process is a bit primitive and when they do release new drivers they don't provide much info about it. I'm seriously afraid to ever install a new driver for the Hauppauge tuners for fear it will "blow up" on me.

I love Hauppauge and know they are a great bunch of people there but they really need to get their act together on this sort of stuff.

Also disapointed

In my setup I get good playback as long as I set my Directv box to PCM. If I set the Directv box to Dolby Digital the HD_PVR has random freezes, especially when watching live tv.

I really wish that a driver would be produced that actually supported dolby digital 5.1 playback.

As a workaround I am using acfilter to simulate 5.1 and it still sounds good.

I did, and a few posts back I reported that it did not work, either with Total Media Extreme or Sage. Reverting back to the previous driver fixed the problem.

I installed the beta over the weekend and I haven't had any trouble to speak of so far (on Fios w/ a 6200 version STB). Since others have mentioned trouble with upgrading the driver, it's probably worth mentioning that I am running 32-bit Windows XP Home.

I'm running 64-bit Vista. Maybe there is just an issue for 64-bit users.

Well, no problems for me yet, nothing broken fixed either though.
My hauppauge remote has not worked since I bought the unit. It's a D2 rev.
It is ever so slightly better in that I can get the remote to work if I start sagetv, stop IRRemote, powercycle the HDPVR, restart the IRRemote software - then the remote will work. However after several button pushes the sound will cut out in Sage until I restart sagetv, which breaks the remote again. The only way the remote will work is if sagetv is already running. I've also had the audio cut out when I used my home theater remote while watching a program.

x64 not working for me.

Well, I think its confirmed that this driver will not function in x64. I had the same thing...Device failed to connect to Device Manager, and as a result, no detection in Sage or TMT.

After installing the beta I was able to set delay_to_wait_after_tuning to 500 in my settings file without problems. I have dish network, fixed at 720p and PCM only audio. Sage Server is on Vista and clients are HD200.

Fingers crossed it holds up.

Well it didn't hold up. It seems like with these drivers the longer I let the HDPVR run without rebooting the more out of sync the audio gets with the video.

Worked for me

These new drivers worked for me . I have a Bell ExpressVu 6100 which is the same hardware as the DishNet equipment. Audio works great -- it's in sync for all recordings now.

I have a rev E HD-PVR. This is the first time I've been able to get 5.1 working since I've purchased the HD-PVR. I simply shut down Sage, unzipped the driver, installed right over the old one, rebooted the machine and bingo.

I see that some people weren't able to use these drivers, but for those who could, are you still having lockup issues with your HD-PVR where you have to power cycle it?

I started using these drivers on April 2 (along with covering the IR windows with black electrical tape) and haven't had a lock since. I'm still not sure if that is coincidence or whether the issue is fixed for me, but that is by far the longest I have ever gone w/o either of my HD-PVRs locking.

And, if you weren't able to use these drivers or are still having issues, have you reported it to Hauppauge?

Switched back to digital audio input on Friday, which always eventually caused a problem, so far so good.
