On the HD-PVR do you have it set to record the audio in AC3 or AAC? It is obvious you are not installing the proper decoders on your client for the format you are recording. Everybody has their Sage client playing recordings from the HD-PVR. Make sure you've installed the latest DirectX on your clients and have installed either TME, CoreAVC or CYberlink PowerDVD and have set the h.264 decoder in the Detailed Setup-Video/Audio-h.264 Video Decoder and have set the audio decoder for either AAC or AC3 depending on how you setup the HD-PVR. For me Placeshifter is problematic with HD-PVR recordings but the SageTV PC Client works fine with the correct decoders.

Agreed. I put client on one of my PCs and playback is fine. Placeshifter on another PC with better specs still gives me issues even though both the server and the placeshifter PC aren't working hard, though I haven't played with getting it working very hard yet either.

Thanks for putting up with my noob questions and problems. This site is fantastic. BTW, I have Sage client now installed on Windows 7 Build 7100 using the MSI Diva Live 5.1 7411 board and the pictures is incredible. Using only about 30% resources viewing 720P from the server. Using AMD 5050e. I only installed TME on this client and nothing else. No other drivers whatsoever. |

The SageTVTranscoder.exe in the new beta seems to be able to support interlaced HD-PVR recordings now if your server has the processing power. The only issues I've run into are with audio sync and my older recordings. Any new 480i recordings I've done all work. My server isn't power enough to transcode the 1080i recordings in realtime but they are also working.

I am having the same problem with HD-PVR streams being unwatchable from Placeshifter. To clarify the OP observations, the stream looks fine on the server but crappy from Placeshifter. The thing he didn't mention is that running Placeshifter on the server itself also exhibits the same problem. So it isn't a bandwidth issue and the installed codecs should be ok since it works on the same machine with the sever UI or Client.
Initially I was underwhelmed with the HD-PVR until I did a complete reinstall of XP and Sage from scratch. Now HD-PVR looks o.k. except for the noted issues. I use component and S/PDIF which is giving me Dolby 5.1 at the amplifier. My STB isn't HD so the file sizes are smaller than my OTA recordings. Looking at recordings info I see this compared to an OTA recording. HD-PVR::: MPEG2-TS [H.264 480i, AC3/384Kbps@48kHz 5.1] OTA::: MPEG2-PS [MPEG2-Video 16:9 1080i@29.97fps, AC3/384Kbps@48kHz 5.1] Is it perhaps the "TS" vs "PS"? And why would client work but placeshifter not on the same PC? I see the same issue from a Linux machine. |

Just installed my hd-pvr using a non HD STB, and see the same issues.
Fine on server, fine on hd 200, no go on placeshifter. My placeshifter is not wired atm, wireless n 120-166 Mbps Ill play with some settings mentioned above, but do I need to install a separate program for the .h264 codex? EDIT: Tried a trial client (not placeshifter) on a ION machine I have, and it worked. Al thought getting the video settings to work seemed unnecessarily difficult. This machine is just using wireless g (even though the card is n compatible, but that's another story) Whats the reason for placeshifter not working but clients do?? Unless things have changed then instead of Placeshifter use Client. Not sure why Client works and Placeshifter doesn't.

As also posted in another topic, I am having big lipsync issues with placeshifter and Live or recoreded TV through HD-PVR.
The audio is most of the time 1 second ahead which make it very annoying to watch dialog scenes. Have you encoutred this kind of problems with placeshifter. By the way client works like a charm. |

ah well, just adding 2 cents.
Thought these place shifter issues had been worked out, but apparently not. Running placeshifter on a windows 7 64 bit on a nice fast quad core with a new ati 5700. It's on the same physical lan as sage server (which is a quad core phenom.) I can connect to sageserver over network and playback hd-pvr recordings just fine outside of sage, but if I fire up the placeshifter it connects and plays non-hd-pvr files fine, but is unwatchable with hd-pvr files. Audio is fine, but video is a frame every few secons, at best. I got the total media software installed on the box that has placeshifter on it, so was hoping it would work, but no go. I've tried most all configurations of settings inside placeshifter client. ah well.

Can confirm the same behavior. It's not a server transocding issue; very little CPU usagae on the server (or the placeshifter machine) when the placeshifter machine is on the local network. My understanding is that there should not be any transcoding when on the local network using the default settings, but still, no joy.
